A- Midnight oil pours from the waxed 500ml to a chalice. A small frothy deep cocoa tan head up to a finger with decent retention. Small spotty lace.
S- Pretty much the middle of the line between bourbon barrel and cocoa roasty malts with the whiskey taking and slight edge. Luscious fruity peppery Bourbon leads off with some booze opening for fudge, fruity dark chocolate, vanilla hints, espresso, plums, candied raisin, caramel and wet old oak wood.
T- The barrel becomes a bit more forward with big peppery bourbon and plenty of smooth, withered oak wood flavor with some tannins. Dark fruits covered in fudge, toasted nuts, booze, vanilla, caramel, prunes, bitter dark chocolate, espresso and burnt malt. Oak comes on strong with time but the booze keeps it at bay.
MF- Thick and really hefty puffy and oily body. Very very warm booze finish but its smoothed by the rich fudgy chocolatey malts. Medium level of carbonation and somewhat frothy texture.
The barrel becomes a big beast with time but the base stout is hefty enough with rich cocoa, coffee and roast as well as some sweetness to counter the peppery boozy whiskey.
