this is no longer retired. it is a filtered wheat brew, but with all the same heavy banana esters we know and love in german hefeweizens. clear golden yellow on the pour, with a fading white head that never really established itself. the nose is real yeast forward, banana but not much spice, summery vibe to this one. the flavor highlights some white wheat malt, and the yeast of course. the fact that its filtered I think lends to its drinkability, but it finishes a bit sweet, which doesn't really work. it could use a bit more of a hop spike on the back end to balance it all out, but the carbonation is great and the body is very light. overall a well done beer, but nothing out of the ordinary. how though, can a german style beer exude so much Belgian character, yeast wise, its downright strange, not bad, but funny to say the least.

Had on tap at the ABC. Appearance was a murky, dull yellow color. The drink looked like it had a syrupy texture and it had no head to begin with. The aromas were deliciously typical for a hefeweizen: fruity and citrus plus the banana flavors they advertised. The taste was a great sour-sweet lemon flavor that was not overpowering at all. Biggest disappointment was the mouthfeel which lacked any crispness/carbonation at all; practically flat and way too light. Overall, some great flavors, but I just did not like how the drink felt.

AP: a slightly hazy honey color with a thin white lacy head that dissiptes to a scattered, thin cover.

nose: corrinader, spices, wheat malt, banana.

Flavor: a very nice sour, belgian yeast flavor hits first with a light wheat malt taking the back seat and spices, herbs and corrinader with a banana kick rides along for a decent effect overall.

Feel: light, crisp and very refreshing...nuff said.

DA: easy and clean.

Pours slightly hazy amber with a short head. Lacing is OK. Smells like a standard unfiltered wheat beer with slight citrus notes. Taste was pretty good. Refreshingly wheaty, lemony, and smooth. I'd definitely drink this again. Was light enough to drink several and interesting enough to enjoy.

Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Review updated 7-11-03. Updated 7-16-04.

This wheat beer poured a hazy, golden yellow color with white foam that settled. The smell was modest: citrus, light malt, a hint of fruitiness. The taste was a bit thin: malt, wheat, citrus, biscuit, with astringent hops in the finish. The mouthfeel was smooth and clean and dry. The body was medium-light with good carbonation. The finish was dry and the malt flavor lingered a bit. This was a decent, light and refreshing american wheat ale.
