Bottle conditioned, 500 ml. Bought at Memorable Cheeses, Ipswich. No head, very little carbonation. Deep amber colour, hazy (I poured the yeast in). Aroma is hoppy, oaky, slightly spicy. Well balanced flavour, just the right blend of fruitiness, hoppiness and maltiness. Nice hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. A good beer!

L- Very dark amber, pours with 1Cm white head of medium sized bubbles, that clears to lacing.
S- Light pleasant roasted malts
T- Somewhat hoppy bitterness, and into richness that continues to build more than I anticipated. It also has a puddingy side (as in Xmas pudding, rich with quite deep and indulgent flavours) that I wasn't anticipating from a 4.5% beer; whereas I do expect them in specifically a materially higher ABV% Christmas type ale.
M- I think it has achieved a lovely balance of bitter vs richness.
O- Very nice, certainly one I'd buy again.
Notes: the lable has changed. It's now pale bronze (top half) of navy blue (bottom half), the text and imagery has also changed.
BB: 10/11/18 500ml bottle bought from Marks + Spencer London

Cask offering. Light amber. Frothy head.
English hop aroma.
A nice hop/malt balanced flavour.
Decent conditioning. Smooth with a light carbonation.
A good all rounder.

Pint at JDW in Chancery Lane.
A: Bronze, clear, small white head, with moderate retention and decent lacing.
S: Earthy Fuggles type hop.
T: Sweat wheat, with a bitter slightly off fruity finish.
M: Low to moderate carbonation, smooth texture, body light enough.
O: A beer which fell between two stools, too strong to session, but lacked the character of some others with lower ABV.

29 Jan 2013: along side in Huatulco, Mexico. The sea and Modelo beers on the beach had kept me cool during the day, now back on board I needed something different. The 500ml bottle conditioned brew had been with me since Southampton and had patiently waited in my fridge until thisday.
Poured slowly into two tumblers it showed a good looking amber body with a full white head.
Fruity, hoppy and with a mild citrus hint throughout the tasing. Really enjoyed it's flavours and although not as malty as I normally prefer, this was a good blend and well made. The body depth suited it too.

I had this two days ago in a pub next to the railway station in Norwich, while waiting for the train to London .... Norwich was such an interesting place, that my gf and I decided to dedicate 3 of the 6 hours we spend there to watch "The Dark Knight" in the movie theatre! .... well and like Norwich seems quite an average English town, this brew seems an average English ale ... that shouldn't be taken as an insult, as I regard English Ales highly ... however 2 days after drinking this I have no specific memory (neither good nor bad) ... so I would consider this a fair drink, but no lasting memory

Happy to see this bottle-conditioned version available at the Real Ale beer shop in Richmond. I've tried its cask-conditioned form on several occasions and almost got hooked onto this beer. When on form, it's a very enjoyable and delicious best bitter with colourful flavours to play with, but not too malty or hoppy. Now is the moment of truth for the bottle-conditioned version.
BBE MAY 06, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: pours a slightly hazy, amber colour, coming with a very thin and fluffy beer head, against a lightly-carbonated body.
S: subtle and colourful aroma, featuring citrus-fruits and flowery fragrance--orange blossoms, a drop of lemon juice and grapefruit rind, and flowery honey spring to mind, while a deeper scent of flowery-esters mixes well with settled aroma of Marris Otter pale malts. Balanced aroma, not as pronounced and vertical as the cask version, but nice still.
T: medium-thick textured biscuity malts dominate the palate upfront--chewy, woody and slightly nutty; at the back a mild fruity flavour of citrus zest lingers, balanced with a mellow, tea-leafy bitterness and implicit nutty-malty overtone in the long finish.
M&D: on the palate the mouthfeel/texture is very similar to that on cask, being soft and mellow, while the body is just ideal for its moderate flavour profile. Good input of hops helps reach a balance with nicely-tuned maltiness. Extremely drinkable this beer is, at least for me. Can't wait to try it again from a fresh cask~~

Tried on cask at the Wig & Pen in Norwich, UK...
Appearance: orangey-brown, good clarity, frothy speckled layer of white foam, good head retention
Aroma: hop leaves and passion-fruity hop resin, malt, hint of caramel, lightly fruity
Flavor: dryish malt-base with a tartness around the edges, hint of roast, grassy hop flavor, nutty, finishes dryish with a lingering spicy hop bitterness, residual maltiness on the tongue
Mouthfeel: medium body, low-to-no carbonation, a bit astringent
Other comments: This sample was definitely from a cask that soon needs to be changed; a bit lifeless. But it's potentially a good to great beer.
