L- Mid chestnut, clear, pours with 5mm pale tan head of mixed bubble size, that is clearing quite swiftly.
S- Bready toasty malts, nice.
T- Medium bodied, goes into a good hoppy-bitter finish.
F- Quite a good feel for a gentle 4.0%, ie it has more presence than a typical beer of this strength.
O- To me this is a quality/traditional English Bitter. There does not seem to be anything out of place at all (ie very well balanced). The lable suggests 'rich spice and citrus fruit aromas... and hints of sweet malt and fruit'; maybe my palate if having an off day but I'm unable to identify those aspects. Perhaps that's a good thing, as for me this is an eminently sessionable trad bitter and I'd happily buy it again.
500ml bottle, BBE: 10/2019. £2.39 from the Co-op shop at Norwich station.

Note: I've just noticed the Description in the headers lists this beer as 4.1%, the thumb-nail image also appears to say the same. But my bottle's lable clearly says 4.0%, as does the brewery website https://www.woodfordes.com/our-shop/beer/bottles/once-bittern-500ml/ Maybe they altered the ABV% a fraction lower so the beer falls in a lower band of Excise duty or similar?...

Gravity poured pint on 20 Apr 2013 at the CAMRA AGM bar in Norwich.

Light brown body with a copper hint in a strong light source, the head was a weak, thin affair from the off.

No strong aroma, faint traces of citrus and wood as the beer warmed.

The taste more floral than the nose suggested: mildly dry in the mouth with a semi-dry finish.

A long way from interesting, but an OK refreshing brew that isn't going to upset anyone or test your taste buds.
