Flora is the wine barrel-aged version of Florence (1915-1967), our grandfather's sister as well as the name of our Farmstead® wheat ale. A single barrel was selected and aged on a blend of fresh, hand-picked cherries and berries from Elmore and the Champlain Valley. The result is a complex, elegant, fruit-forward blend that both marries and highlights each of its constituent elements.

375 mL bottle. Hazy red body. Smells of raspberry, sweet pie cherry, and a little plastic. White wine and oak. Tastes pretty tart. Sour raspberry. White wine. Cherry lends sweetness. Oaky finish. Lingering raspberry sourness. Medium light. Pretty sour. My first pour was yeasty and tasted like plastic. A clearer pour was significantly better.

375ml bottle, bottled Dec. 2016, poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass.

The beer pours a beautiful ruby red grapefruit color, pink and salmon hues, hazy and cloudy with a bit of sediment in the glass. A faint white head appears briefly with no retention nor lace. The aroma is quite pleasant, lots of jammy raspberry and tart cherry, soft and fleshy, lemon peel, a nice funkiness with a bit of pie spice. The flavors are nice, lots of berry flavor, jammy yet tart with a nice kick of tart cherry, a bit of pie spice, nicely developed funk, also a bit floral with soft oak barrel. The mouthfeel is okay, medium body, good heft, lively carbonation, coats well and finishes with a tart and dry kick.

Verdict: A very nice fruited Flora from Hill Farmstead. A bit tart and sour for my liking, but a great expression of both cherry and raspberry while showing off a nice amount of the base Flora saison.

375ml bottle poured into a unmarked oversized wine glass at Hill Farmstead.

A~ amazing glowing bright red with a little head and no lacing.

S~ mmm...! montmorency cherries which also bring a little cinnamon. raspberry jam, just amazing fruit all around! little black pepper on the end.

T~ way more raspberry here and less cherry. juicy, jammy raspberries!! and some amazing red wine like funk! holy fruit!!! slightly oaky on the end which sums it all together!

M~ super smooth, refreshing and soft nice carb.

O~ whoa! definitely my favorite fruited Flora!! whatever fruit they used just worked perfectly with the wheaty wine barrel saison. would drink all day every day! what a treat!
