Society & Solitude #13 features HBC 586, Simcoe, and Strata hops. Developed by the Hop Breeding Co. (a joint venture between John I. Haas and Yakima Chief Ranches), HBC 586 is perhaps our favorite HBC varietal in the last decade. Strata—a variety developed by Indie Hops via Oregon State’s Aroma Hop Breeding Program—provides a unique complexity of aromas that buttresses the qualities we enjoy most with our hand-selected Simcoe® hops.

16oz. Can into a BT pint glass.

2 finger frothy white head. Spiderweb lace. Hazy peach color. Nose is citrus, stone fruit, fresh cut grass, and unripened peach. Pretty mellow. Beer opens unripened peach, apricot, and other stonefruit pit. A bit of cherry stem and pit in the middle. Citrus, grapefruit, and morning dew on grass at the finish. Extremely well balanced. Body is light with moderate to ample carbonation. Prickly and lively on the palate and goes down bone dry with a sticky, lingering aftertaste.

There's not many stonefruit forward IPAs out there but this is certainly one of the better ones.

This one pours a semi-hazy golden yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like melon, grapefruit, minerally bitterness, grassiness, lemon, and stone fruit.

This is really tasty to me – very dry on the finish, with a grassy and mineral-esque finish, almost botanical, with juicy grapefruit, apricot, and melon hop character.

This is fairly light bodied for the ABV, but not thin, with a great drinkability.

This series is so varied, but also invariably delicious. This is another great entry, with a refreshing and dry bitterness on the end that keeps me coming back for me.

Canned on 2/7/23; consumed on 3/11/23

Pours a deeply translucent, glossy copper-gold body capped with two and a half fingers of rocky, eggshell-white foam; good head retention leaves a finger and a half of cap, a moderate, frothy collar, and modest display of webby/spotty lacing dotted around the walls of the glass.

Aromas of pineapple cut with pink grapefruit settle to white grape as a softer layer of citric tangerine washes over grassy resins.

Taste offers key lime zest and a flaky malt backing upfront, with pink lemonade residuals and a grassy trail guiding through notes of orange zest over the mid-palate; underripe guava, green pineapple, and peppery white grape are interspersed across the back end of the profile.

Mouthfeel brings a body on the lighter end of medium and a moderate carbonation, levying a prickly spritz and easing to creamy textures contrasting taut zest through the mid-palate as minimal bittering lingers on a clean, slightly resinous back end.

A delicate presentation of an eclectically citric profile marrying sensations of underripe tropical fruits to an adeptly earthy foundation; lighter and refreshing for its ABV.

Pours a hazy orange from the can, light and fluffy half-inch head that quickly flattens out but leaves good lacing. Nose is dried mango, strawberry Starburst, tropical fruit juices, and light menthol spiciness. Taste has more pine than apparent on the nose, but there's plenty of sweeter, more tropical hop notes to go around. Some background grain, malt, and barley, as well as mild hop spice. There's a lack of brightness to this overall, however, while at the same time a lack of depth to its flavor. Spice lingers on the finish, as well as some greener, allium notes. As with every beer I picked up on this trip, this felt under carbonated. Good, but think it's carried a little far by the name on the label.
