This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like caramel and spicy barrel, but there’s also a distinct overripe and vegetal green pepper aroma on this one.
This had not been out for very long at the time of drinking, so the fact that this has gone towards the green pepper Dark Side so quickly. The barrel character is excellent, with caramel, vanilla, even some coconut, and some nice chocolatey notes from the base porter. However, the coffee used here has degraded so completely quickly – I can’t imagine this is going to get any better with time.
This is medium bodied, with very little booziness.
I like almost every Hill Farmstead beer, but this one was a big disappointment.
