a cool beer that has some similarities to a classic flanders red type, it has that kind of pucker and gripping acidity and the sort of fruity red wine vinegar complexion to it, but it also has a really neat dark malt base, almost porter-esque in the roasty and rich elements, darker than most sours out there, and with some strong barrel characteristics as well, complex and interesting beer for sure, fun to get to try this one on tap! i get dark chocolate covered cherry and red wine right away in the nose, subtle milk chocolate and fruity sweetness too, port wine nuttiness, black cherry and raspberry depth and tang, and then some lemony and vinegar forward acidity, less oak than in the taste. the fruitiness is there in the taste too, nice against the dark malts, permeating vanilla and oak tannins from the barrel, and some of the whiskey sweetness as well along with the dark roasty grains. dark chocolate and coffee and a ton of bacterial acidity, prune and raisin and booze at the end, sharp but sexy too. nice beer overall, something a little different, and the barrel really helps make it stand out. maybe my favorite madhouse beer i have had so far...

Solid dark sour. It had moderate tartness and became more complex as it warmed and the more I sipped it. These guys are doing some good things with their Sour program. Keep em coming!
