On draught at the Dog and Pony, Midnight Departure is black with a small tan head that leaves scattered sheets of foamy lace.
Smell is hoppy, with some roasted, dark malts.
Taste is pretty full, loads of chocolate and a nice little roastiness. And hops. Nice herbal hopiness, fairly pungent, oily, decent bitterness. Solid example for sure. The hops are a little overshadowed by the blast of dark malts, but they're nevertheless robust.
Mouthfeel is slick, dry, medium heavy bodied.
Drinkability is pretty high. It's full flavored, but smooth, relatively balanced (i.e for the style), and generally very satisfying. My first Airways brew, I'm impressed.

Poured a black color like any other black IPA with good carbonation and a small white head. Nose is very subtle hops, as the brewer mentioned it was about 40 +/- IBU. Taste is dark malt, dash of hops, some floral, dry, ending with a chocolate taste and some dry hop bite. Moutrhfeel is dry, clean with booze and a roasted flavor. Drinkable, indeed.
