I picked up a bottle of Odd Side Ales Electric Pineapple for $8.99 at The Lager Mill. I don't think I've had a pineapple sour before and this one really caught my attention, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 16ox bottle into a teku.
A- The label is very nice, it goes great with the name and it's very eye catching. It poured a darker orange color which took on more of a brighter golden orange color when held to the light and it had almost a fingers worth of bubbly off white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left a little bit of a spotty lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, but I wish the head and retention where a little better.
S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with a sour aroma being the first to show up and it's followed by a funky yeast aroma that goes right into the pineapple which imparts a big natural pineapple like aroma along with some sweetness that goes into the malts which impart a little bit of caramel, pale malt, grainy and slightly bready like aroma. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, no single aspects seems to overpowering.
T- The taste seems to be fairly similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with a higher amount of medium sourness being the first to show up and it's followed by the pineapple which is lighter than it was in the aroma, but it still imparts those nice natural pineapple like aspects. Up next comes a slight bit of that funky yeast and it goes into the malts which impart of those grainy and bready aspects this time. On the finish there's some linger sourness with a sour, slightly fruity and pretty grainy aftertaste. This is a pretty nice tasting beer, the flavors work well together, but I wish it was a little bolder.
M- Fairly smooth, crisp, not too acidic, on the lighter side of being medium bodied with a higher amount of medium carbonation.
Overall I thought this was a nice beer and solid example of the style, it's not bad at all, but it's a little more heavier on the malts than I would like and I find that it takes away from the sour and pineapple aspects and that holds this beer back a little from being as good as it could be. This beer had ok drinkability, one is enough for me, it might start to wear on me after more than one. What I like the most about this beer was the aroma, it was nice and the different aspects worked well together. What I liked the least about this beer was the malty base showing up more than it should and I wish it had better drinkability. I don't think I would buy this beer again, but I wouldn't turn one down and I can't say it's a must try, but if you really like pineapple it may be worth taking a chance on. All in all I liked this beer, but I didn't love it, mainly because it had some aspects that brought this beer down and it stopped it from being as good as it could be. It's not a a favorite odd sides beer and it's just a little above average for the style. Solid job guys, but I think with a little more would this could be a pretty good beer.

A: Dark golden yellow, translucent, looks like juice
S: Tart, lactic, sweet pineapple juice, citrus, tropical, guava, honey grains, white grape
T: Balanced sour, light acidity, toasted grains, honey, lemon, sweet pineapple, white grape
M: Medium carbonation
O: Not as in your face pineapple as the one from Odell but still good. First sour i've had from Odd Side and I'd try more as it has some unique qualities.

It's okay.
Had this as part of a paddle at Clubhouse BFD. I've had a few of Odd Side's sours, and while many people don't like them, I'm a fan. Unfortunately, this isn't one of their better ones. Rather than having an actual pineapple flavor, I just find that it tastes like... a sour. The pineapple isn't nearly as prominent as I was hoping for, and that's really the problem I have with this. I really enjoy Odd Side's general sour recipe, but more pineapple would go a long, long way in this.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 7/19/2016. Pours hazy orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of sour lemon, lime, green apple, pineapple, peach, guava, papaya, mango, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, wheat, cracker, light white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pineapple, and moderate pale malt/oak notes; with good strength. Taste of sour lemon, lime, green apple, pineapple, peach, guava, papaya, mango, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, wheat, cracker, light white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/acidic sourness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, green apple, pineapple, peach, papaya, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, wheat, cracker, light white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pineapple, and moderate pale malt/oak flavors; with a great malt/sourness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light dryness from acidity, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is a very good fruited sour ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pineapple, and moderate pale malt/oak flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced acidity. The flavors weren’t quite as sour as the aromas led me to believe, but it still had well rounded sour/wild ale complexity. A very enjoyable offering.
