Very disappointing as I’m a huge fan of Odd Side Ales. Admittedly rye beers are not usually my thing but I did enjoy their potato soufflé rye and brunch rye offerings. This one had plenty of bitterness but just not enough fruity citrus and no malt balance. Poured a slightly hazy, orange-yellow color with some nice foaming white head and a little spotty lingering lacing. The smell was definitely off – too much dankness with very little actual fruity hops. There was maybe a very faint aroma of malt. The taste was mainly bitter tangerine with a little orange, just a trace of malt and a little caramel. Smooth thin mild mouth feel with good carbonation. It’s a shame because I wanted to really like this offering, but I couldn’t get over the aromas and there was no malt backbone to balance everything out.

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a tulip glass
This beer pours a hazy amber color with chunks of yeast visible. It is topped with two inches of creamy, beige head that leaves some nice lacing.
The smell is tangerine forward. I get a little additional citrus with some caramel.
The tangerine is there along with the spiciness of the rye. There is a little bitterness in the finish.
Creamy, pillowy mouthfeel
It was an easy drinker but no standout. I would drink again but would not specifically seek it out.

On tap. Look is pale gold and clear. Smell is light spicy grain, a bit of sweet citrus. Taste is rye up front, spicy and nutty cereal. Hop bitter is strong, flavor is on the piney side. I don't get any of the tangerine for most of the mouthful, maybe some sweet element at the very end. Feel is medium sweet, but very thin. Abv undetectable. Overall a nice experiment, but I won't be rushing back

I'm not a huge fan of rye beers but will try just about anything from odd sides. I'm glad I did. This was a decent looking ipa. Not much for auroma. Was pleasantly surprised at the taste. Light and refreshing and great for a hot summer day. By far one of the better tasting rye ipas I have tried.
