Happy Return, MKII, to What "New" Beers Have We Here Sunday (Week 750)? The CANQuest (tm) is rolling along at high speed & now, having been duly CANspired by @Jimmy_Kneecaps I am taking a walk on the Odd Side, next to Lou Reed.
From the CAN: "Mixed fermentation ale brewed with Lactose. Blueberries, Raspberries and Lime added."
Lactose makes me lachrymose, but I pressed on all the same. I could hardly CANtain my excitement in CANducting my Crack! of the vent, but somehow, I prevailed. I went with an initial slow, gentle C-Line Glug since I wanted to see if I could get any clarity in this one. I get that it is probably supposed to be at least hazy, but I left enough in the CAN to play with. I was amused by its creation of just over a finger of fizzy, foamy, rocky, pink cotton-CANdy-like head with relatively low retention. Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Magenta (SRM = N/A). Nose was more Raspberry than Blueberry, although both were easily discernible. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not much beyond it, either. The taste was initially puckeringly tart, giving me pause. The raspberry remained the star of this initial pour, but blueberry was not far behind & lime was cowering behind the curtain, a shy little beauty awaiting her moment.
I know that I keep saying that I am not a fan of tarts and/or sours, but that is not CANpletely true. It partially stems from my GIRD, which they tend to set off, mightily. I also do not dig it when the tart/sour/funkiness is in-my-face & unabating. All unpleasant aspects of Wild Ales, AmeriCAN or not.
I mention the preceding because I was really enjoying this one! The raspberries were definitely tart & the lime was CANtributing, but my acid reflux was not rising to the bait/ocCANsion. The finish of the initial pour was very fruity, moderately tart & a real treat.
Now, for an in-CAN swirl & a hard pour of the lees! I did not sense much of a difference on/from the pour, but it was cloudier than before. Nose was a little more pronounced in terms of both the fruitiness & the tartness. Mouthfeel thickened slightly. The lime was MUCH more pronounced now. Finish was still not overly tart. I CAN live with this one. YMMV.

Paid a bit much for this almost 4 bucks but had to have it! Pours a very berry looking purple hazy with a 1/2 inch of tinted foam. Smells of blueberry and raspberry but the taste is where is shines the taste is on par with the smell! Tons of fruity blueberry and tart raspberry definitely one of the beer fruit beers I have had in a while. Body is great crisp and easy to finish. Final thought if you see a four pack cheaper than 12 pick it up! A very easy to crush and true to style wild ale that will not set you back that much!

12 ounce can, didn't notice a date on it but I'm pretty sure I've had this for a month or 2. Served in a chalice, the beer pours a hazy reddish/purple color with about an inch light pink head. Head retention is decent, and there isn't much lacing. Aroma is nice and fruity, the brew smells mostly like blueberry and raspberry, along with some bready malt, vanilla and earthiness. Taste is mostly like the aroma, but there's also some grape skin, citrus peel, wheat and a bit of lime flavor. I think the blueberry and raspberry dark fruity flavors tend to overpower the others. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit slick and smooth with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this, but there just seemed to be something missing here. With that being said, it's still worth a try. $9.99 a 4-pack.

12 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours moderately hazy dark ruby red/purple color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky pink head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy blueberries, raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, lime, lemon, pear, red/green apple, melon, red grape, hay, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit, light lacto/Brett funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/light acidic yeast, berries, lime, lactose, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy blueberries, raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, lime, lemon, pear, red/green apple, melon, red grape, hay, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit, light lacto/Brett funk, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity/lactic tartness, and fruit tang on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy blueberries, raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, lime, lemon, pear, red/green apple, melon, red grape, hay, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit, light lacto/Brett funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/light acidic yeast, berries, lime, lactose, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a with an awesome malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance; and zero cloying/puckering flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering tartness/tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky/grainy, and lightly acidic/tangy mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is an excellent fruited milkshake sour! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/light acidic yeast, berries, lime, lactose, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mildly acidic/tangy finish. Very flavorful for the low ABV. Great jammy fruit notes, balanced milkshake-like sweetness; and solid Brett/lacto complexity like the rest of the series so far. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Very consistent variations, great summer sours.
