12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/22/2019. Pours lightly hazy deep reddish orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense and rocky cream colored head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big honey, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, spicy rye whiskey, ginger, lime, citrus peel/zest, peppermint tea, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of apricot, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, grass, peppercorn, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malts, ginger, lime, peppermint tea, rye whiskey barrel, and light fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of huge honey, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, spicy rye whiskey, ginger, lime, citrus peel/zest, peppermint tea, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of apricot, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, grass, peppercorn, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, grassy, woody, peppery bitterness; and ginger/rye whiskey spiciness on the finish. Slight citrus tang/tartness. Lingering notes of honey, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, spicy rye whiskey, ginger, lime, citrus peel/zest, peppermint tea, toasted oak, biscuit, brown bread/crust, light fruits, herbal, grass, peppercorn, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, ginger, lime, peppermint tea, rye whiskey barrel, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, fairly sticky/tannic, and lightly slick/syrupy/tart/tangy mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 11%; with minimal linger barrel booze, ginger spice heat, or mint cooling after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic fruited/spiced barrel aged strong ale. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, ginger, lime, peppermint tea, rye whiskey barrel, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV; with the mellowly bitter/spicy/tannic/drying finish; great soft feel. Perfectly balanced super rich malts, lime, spices, and rye whiskey barrel presence/integration; with mild fruity yeast. Mild residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing experimental style example as expected. This basically tastes like a remix of Sweet Potato Souffle, but more spicy/drying. Not overwhelming on any aspect.
