12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 2/17/2020. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, medium roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, roasted nuts, toasted oats, biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as is warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts, spices, bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, medium roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, roasted nuts, toasted oats, biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Light herbal, grass, roast, charred bitterness; and bourbon/oak/cinnamon spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, medium roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, roasted nuts, toasted oats, biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, spices, bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak/cinnamon spiciness balance; with no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, fairly sticky/chalky, and lightly slick/tannic mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 12.25%, with minimal lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic flavored barrel aged imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, spices, bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish; nicely soft feel. Perfectly balanced rich malts, oatmeal cookie flavoring, and bourbon barrel presence/integration; with solid earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected of the brewery. Big authentic oatmeal cookie notes in the nose, but still translates to the taste really well.
