Thanks to Whyteboar for this one!
Poured from a 12oz can into a stemmed tulip glass
the beer pours nearly jet black with about 3 fingers of dense tan head that slowly recedes leaving a thin cap and a small amount of lacing
A lot going on in the nose on this one. Initially I notice the bourbon barrel and roasted malts, but there are also notes of orange zest, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and brown sugar
The flavor is a bit more muted than the aroma, but is still terrific, and very complex. I get bready malts and chocolate as the most prominent flavors, with orange zest, bourbon barrel, vanilla, and caramel. The beer really opens up as it warms, and seems to take on a much more cohesive flavor profile. Medium/full bodied and mild carbonation, very smooth with a slightly dry finish.
Overall, this is a really nice beer that I wish I had more that one of!

Canned 1/31/23
Moving right along with the first BIF box from BigIronH, we have quite an interesting one. Orange peel and white chocolate seem like flavors that might get lost in a bourbon barrel aged Stout, but I'm excited to try it nonetheless. Let's crack it open and see if they pulled it off
Pours almost completely pitch black with 2 fingers of creamy tan head that slowly fades to a ring and leaves decent lacing
The adjuncts actually rise above any of the boozy heat in the nose. I'm picking up on aromas of orange zest, toasted walnut, vanilla bean, white chocolate, dry oak, sweet whiskey, fruity coffee, raisin, and brown sugar
It's a bit more faded in taste, but it's still good for what it is. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting orange zest, milk chocolate, toasted oak, sweet bourbon, vanilla bean, brown sugar, light molasses, and caramel. The swallow brings notes of white chocolate, toasted oak, sweet bourbon, burnt caramel, candy apple, orange zest, and vanilla bean
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry with a balanced sweetness
This one is super fun. I'm sure the adjuncts were more prevalent closer to the canning date but they weren't completely gone by any means

Solid head production and retention. Lacing clings to the glass appropriately.
Strong whiskey nose, along with quite a bit of char, prune, toast, and red grape notes. Is this closer to RIS territory than AIS? Or are the whiskey and oak leading me astray?
Flavor follows the nose, but with a strong dose of chocolate added to the proceedings, as well as a slightly sour and bitter note from the orange peel. Still leans roasty and bitter, as with the nose, and the whiskey comes across closer to a neutral grain than a sweeter bourbon, enhancing that impression, but the chocolate does balance things out somewhat. Additional tasting notes include vanilla, caramel, biscuit.
The orange isn't heavy handed, and provides a subtle layer of complexity, but at the same time, I'm not sure it adds enough to make the overall profile better; if you're expecting something along the lines of orange-infused chocolate candy, you'll definitely be missing the mark. It does build a touch with each sip, but by providing it's own aspect of bitterness - essentially giving you four different facets of bitterness: orange peel, roasted barley, hops, and whiskey/oak barrels - it kind of doubles down on the RIS-like aspect of this beer.
Mouthfeel is smooth. Very little heat or burn from the ABV or the barrels, but there is a dry effervescence from the whiskey. Despite the dry finish, it's also long, with lingering oakiness and bitterness.
Overall, an excellent beer and a worthy anniversary offering.

Pours mahogany with a pinky of mocha colored head. Zero head retention & lacing
S: Cocoa, vanilla, caramel, a whiff of Whisky
T: Boozy cocoa, vanilla, a touch of oaky dryness up front. Oaky dryness, cocoa, and caramel once warm. Finishes a little sweet, with dryness & a kiss of Maple & some oakyness
MF: Medium/thick body, restrained carbonation , body starts thinning out a bit once warm. A little booze warmth
Solid take on the style, pretty drinkable, wanted a little more ooomph
