May 13th, 2015 - Next in the seasonal series is the Summer 2014 - a surprisingly liquid for a beer that conjures images of the brightness of a nice summer day. This is a brown ale, with a solid haziness that lets just a bit of clarity appear at the bottom of the glass. The aroma offers a husky wood smell, decorated and patched with scotch, tobacco and leather. It is a decidedly masculine aroma, and makes me think of a cigar smoking room. The palate is flatter, and feels a bit like drinking a cigar. The aftertaste lingers and offers some caramel sweetness to drizzle on the tobacco notes. The body also seems to perk up a little bit, letting the carbonation match the intensity of the flavors. It tastes more like a Fall or Deep Winter brew to me, but whatever it's seasonal title, it is a delicious brew.

Hazy golden-tinged brown with plenty of foam in the Duvel tulip. Aroma is winey and a little hoppy. Sharp and spritzy on the tongue. Melts in the mouth!

Delicious barrel flavor, and quite a whiff of booze in the aroma. Butterscotch sharpened up with fragrant hops. This is aged in oak barrels and it does have a nice balance of the woody taste to go with the hot malt. Nice vanilla finish.

This is a highly sippable brew that I want to keep sipping. I think the Imperial Brown style is actually an improvement over the often doggy plain brown ale. From the 22 oz bottle from Bottleworks in San Diego. Cost was $14.
