Blonde Ale with Ginger and Lemon - Using a light, crisp Blonde Ale as a base, we add lemon and ginger after fermentation to create a refreshingly unique summer classic. Both flavors are very much at play in the aroma but then settle down enough in the flavor to enjoy a pint (or three) without being overwhelmed. Call it a bouquet rather than perfume. This is a well-rounded session beer.

COLOR: 2.8; IBU: 21; Grain Bill: Pale 2-Row, and Flaked Wheat; Hops: Crystal; Gravity: Original: 1.042, Final: 1.006.

Not a week after discovering the first blonde ale I've ever truly enjoyed, here is this one, which I like even more.

She pours with a beautifully resplendent golden body and a short lived, but lustrous white froth in the shape of little white continents on a glass map. I could be more impressed with Mother Earth's can art in general, but the beer itself looks perfect.

Clear aromas of honey, lemon and ginger right off the bat, with a background of graham cracker and gingerbread. This one's a straight shooter, flolks.

She tastes somewhat reminiscent of ginger ale, but actually way closer to liquid gingerbread. Quality stuff too. Not too sweet, and not too heavy on the spice. A real treat...

With impressive balance between the medium-light body and the tart, spicy ginger zing on the finish. Very clean.

Considering what this beer was going for, I don't think it could really be done any better. If you like gingerbread, you'll love this brew. Cheers!

Grunt fill from Winco. Didn't think I'd ever drain pour one of theirs, but this was not that good. Started out Ok, normal appearance, and a snappy aroma, like a ginger ale. Taste is light ginger, and nothing else, dry and tongue coating. Very weak throughout. Will definitely not finish the grunt, will see if I can even finish the glass.

Mother Earth Brew Co. "Call Me Ginger"
12 fl. oz. can coded "GENESIS DATE 05/31/19 N368"
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: So this is a ginger beer? Yes, "brewed with ginger and lemon". OK. It's a hazy yellow gold beneath a short head of white. Perhaps the head could be fuller but maybe they don't want to increase the carbonation as it might increase the perception of the spiciness of the ginger in the beer. The aroma suggests both the ginger and the lemon over a basic, lightly sweetish and bready malt base. There's a very light hint of floral hops to it as well but I'm not sure most people will even get that. On to the flavor... the ginger remains, along with the mild note of lemon, and then the base malt. It's decent enough. I kind of wish there was more ginger there myself but then I'd imagine more might cut down on its repeat drinkability whereas now I could have at least two of these in a row. But then again, would I want to? I kind of want more ginger, so for me the answer is probably no, but I can understand keeping it limited. Besides, ginger is expensive. OK, what else? The hops carry over as well. They're nice. I'm not sure if they're citrusy because of the lemon flavoring, but I get a floral and kind of "noble hop" note. It's pleasant, and nicely done - I wasn't expecting that. It's one of those components that a lot of people don't even see, but it's there and it's adding to the overall taste. The bitterness is moderate but that's to be expected, and welcomed. I'd call it about 15 IBUs, and just like the hop flavor and aroma, there's just enough there to balance and round it out. There's no lacing left behind on the glass, which is disappointing but what can you do. I know this glass is "beer glass clean", so that's not the issue, it's just that it doesn't have enough carbonation to keep a head. Or is it the lemon flavoring doing that? In the mouth it's medium-light in body and gently crisp. Some ginger lingers in the finish with what I'd call an artificial lemon note. In the end it's a pleasant and easy to drink glass of beer that offers something different but nothing extraordinary.

Welcome back to my What "New" Beers Have We Here Sunday (Week 750)? They're all new, plus there is a developing theme, as usual. At this point, we embark on The CANQuest (tm) to see what's rilly new & rilly good.

From the CAN: "SS Mother" (on the life saver); "Tasting Notes: Zesty Citrus, Crisp and Refreshing"; "Love your Mother".

I was REALLY stoked to Crack! open the vent on this one & get started until I looked more closely at the CAN's label. Blonde Ale?!? Ginger, baby ... It was like she had beautiful red hair; creamy, freckled skin and a blonde beaver! 8=O This should have been a spiced AmeriCAN Amber/Red Ale! 8=( I took out my frustration by upending her for a good spanking as her CANtents free-flowed in a quick Glug into my awaiting glass. Her coiffure puffed out & up to become two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with great retention, leaving loads of sticky lacing in its wake. Color was a gorgeous sunshine-in-a-glass-like Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity. Naturally, this brought forth The Gelt Gang of Mammon. Midas & Croesus for a taste, but they were a little off-put by my machinations with Ginger. Hey, she was bought & paid for & I was going to get my $'s worth! Nose was just spicy enough to be identifiable as ginger without going overboard. I have had some ginger-infused beers before that singed my not inCANsiderable nose hairs! This was one that I would mos def take to Tony Wang's for a Chinese meal, like maybe tomorrow. Mmm. The spicing is allowable in the style & I am glad for something other than just a ho-hum Blonde ho. Er, something like that. Is my predilection for redheads showing? Finish was dry, as any beer that uses spices as an adjunct should be expected to evince. Again, neither too spicy nor too dry, but just right for pairing with a meal, IMHO. YMMV.

ginger and lemon in this one, refreshing and natural tasting, better than so many of the other ginger beers i have had recently, everyone seems to want to use it, but wheats and hefe types dont seem to be the right base beer for it, i like this lighter ale a little better, less contrast with the yeast might be the difference, im not sure, but i could put a few of these back on a hot afternoon for sure. one of the keys here is that its nice and dry, no residual sugar to make a candied ginger suggestion, its a clean and slightly spicy fresh ginger palate, which is much more refreshing, at least to me. on top of that, the lemon adds a nice little pop of citric acidity at the right time, helping the finish be dry and light and pretty clean for a flavored beer. high carbonation is nice for summer thirst quenching too. the balance between the ginger and the lemon definitely favors the ginger, but both are appreciable in here. light body, not a whole lot of malt flavor either, but thats okay in a light one like this. overall probably not going to be a regular in my fridge this summer, but its one of the better ones in this field right now, and we will have no problem finishing off the six pack we bought yesterday!

edit: this is a high summer drink for me, on a scorching sunny afternoon when this is ice cold, its downright fantastic. it warms up not great, and it really needs the context of the weather, but when it all lines up, this is a winner.

Wow. No love huh? I thought this was a refreshing easy drinker with good carbonation for mowing the yard. Got it the first time through Tavour and liked it enough to order it again. So if you don't mind a bubbly thirst quencher for a hot day and ginger is your thing, I encourage trying it out.

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is like a can of ginger ale. Taste is the same as the aroma, very soda like, a touch sweet. Feels light bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.

Poured from a 12oz can into a high sided tulip glass.

Look is a clear pale yellow with a light head that dissipates quickly.

Aroma is natural ginger.

Taste is like a sweet ginger soda.

Not beery at all.
