Don't remember where exactly I had this beer, I think it was at a beer festival. I gave it a very good rating because I like this style of beer.

Taster at CopenRoss. Near black pour with a thin head. Chocolaty aroma, welcoming. Taste is even better, chocolate, coffee, raisins, mildly bitter, and plenty boozy. A little battery taste at the finish, but still really good.

this here is the 2018 edition, with burnt sugar and coconut. it changes forms a little bit each year it looks like, which is a pretty cool idea for a series. this is drinking really well a year later, the coconut doesnt seem to have faded a lick, the stout is strong and smooth, the burnt sugar doesnt make this too sweet to drink, and it highlights the barrel character and some vanilla there, really pretty impressive depth of flavor overall, but each of these annual variants look equally compelling! lots of body to this both from the sugar and from what must have been a pretty robust oat heap in the mash, this is creamy and rich, even before the cocoa character of the dark grain and the woody sweet oak come into play. it is very sweet and alcoholic though, both elements make me glad i am sharing the bottle. the burnt sugar is awesome though, it highlights the coconut and and its toasted aspect, warm and desserty and perfect for a cold fall night. i get a whiskey hint, some bitter cocoa in the dark grain, espresso, licorice, chocolate cake, and vanilla, really good. there is a lot of beer in this bottle, and its a slow sipper through and through, but among the best i have had from these guys. i never had it fresh, but a year seem to have done it a lot of good. ill keep my eye out for other vintages of this, really unique and delicious! stout season in upon us!
edit: by fall of 2021, this is pretty faded, still desserty and sweet, less coconut forward, even the dark grain seems to be in early decay. its not oxidized though, and if you dont need the adjuncts, it seems like it will keep being good awhile longer. smooth and mellow, not as full as it once was, more coconut as it warms, brown sugar, toffee, chocolate cake. i wish they bottled these still instead of switching to cans...

I have enjoyed many stouts and this is one of the best. This beer has a near perfect balance and feel. The flavors come on smooth and rich and linger on the palate. This beer will not disappoint. The only warning is to watch out for that 12.5 abv. It sneaks up on you.

The beer is 50 degrees and served in a tulip glass. The pour on the beer produced a one finger head. The head is a creamy light tan color with fair retention. The head is airy and foamy and left no lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 37 a dark brown nearly black beer. The beer is opaque. The head just settled to a thin ring around the glass.
The initial aromas in the beer are dark roasted malts, coconut, burnt sugar, and chocolate. Additionally, I get medium roasted coffee, stone fruit, raisins, anise, oranges, oatmeal, grains, wood, earth, bready, toffee, caramel, and molasses.
The initial flavors in the beer are dark roasted malts, coconut, burnt sugar, and toffee. Additionally, I get medium roasted coffee, stone fruit, raisins, anise, oranges, oatmeal, grain, grass, wood, earthy, bready, caramel, molasses, a subtle char note, and a touch of smokiness.
The mouthfeel of the beer is chewy and creamy.
The body of the is full, the carbonation is low, and the finish is lasting.
This beer is phenomenal. The imperial oatmeal stout has this incredible harmony and balance I have tried in great beer. This beer is world class. I really cannot find much to pick apart. An absolute must try for stout lovers.
