BBA Nitro Imperial Mocha Stout
A full-bodied, rich winter-warmer loaded with chocolate and whole coffee beans, lending a wonderful roasted aroma and flavor without being astringent. Lactose further adds to the beer’s body and provides a silky smooth mouthfeel mid-palate. Medium crystal and pale chocolate malts add light caramel and toffee notes.

A fantastic 16oz (nitro?) can poured into a shaped goblet.
A: Jet black pour yields a dark mocha head and minimal lace.
S: Incredibly smooth, balanced and well-integrated aromas of fresh coffee beans, cocoa/nibs, vanilla, bourbon barrel, and lactose sweetness.
T: Really follows the nose brilliantly with defined clarity between the adjuncts and a wonderful balance of sweetness and roast character. The lactose and chocolate kick it up a notch, and the coffee is an excellent blend, not too burnt, earthy or acrid.
MF: Extremely smooth and creamy, full bodied with minimal alcohol presence.
O: The best Mother Earth barrel-aged beer I’ve ever tried.

quite possibly the best mother earth beer i have ever had, a nitro imperial stout done with brazilian coffee and and cocoa nibs, aged in bourbon barrels, just extraordinary, the nitro pour on this really is something, really unconventional in barrel aged brews, but with all the coffee on this, i think its perfect, luxurious and sexy and freaky drinkable for what it is, this really lit me up, in conjunction with other barrel aged offerings at their newly redone nampa taproom that is! silky black, some apparent viscosity but not syrupy looking, slowly cascading nitro head amasses into a tan inch of creamy goodness with great retention, and the texture of this is very soft overall, not too sugary, and with just a little of the alcohol peeking through it. aroma and flavor line up well, complex and layered in glorious cohesion, with coffee really standing out in here, a high quality very dark roast and strong brewed drip type it seems to me, just a touch of acidity set against the enriching oak and whiskey through this, its bitter but not burnt, and it really permeates every drop of this from start to finish, i love how bold the coffee dosage is. the cocoa is subtle comparatively but still very much appreciable, earthy and also with a bittering balance, an elegance, and a sort of adult desserty element, not too sweet at all, even with the bourbon and all the malt. the cocoa is nice with the grain here, it highlights the best parts of the coffee profile, and its gone before the swallow. the base stout of course seems of the finest quality as well, which i suppose is the key to the whole thing, but the way the coffee is brought in is what makes this special for me. the nitrogenation is dialed in too, this seems so careful and exact and amazing, a nice contrast to the kitchen sink bigger is better beers that are dominating this style right now. i was floored by this, some of their best work to date for sure. do not miss this one!
