Another beer that I have in the cellar that I am going to review, I wish Mother Earth would put the year on these beers. I am using a tulip glass and serving the beer at 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, creamy, half-fingered, light tan head with poor retention. The quick retention left no lacing on the glass. The color is dark brown with a mahogany hue, charting at SRM 22 and clear. The appearance is good for this style of the beer
Nosing the glass, I smell plums, caramel, toffee, bready, figs, raisins, baking spices, vanilla, roasted malts, light char, and alcohol. Smelling the glass again, lightly toasted malt, vanilla, molasses, burnt sugar, and earthy. It smells like a spice cake with an old ale base.
Sipping the glass, the flavors start with figs, plums, caramel, toffee, vanilla, molasses, burnt sugar, baking spices, earthy, light char, roasted malts, raisins, and alcohol. The beer is loaded with fruit notes and baking spices.
The body of the beer is medium with low carbonation. The mouthfeel is chewy and finishes a bit hot and smooth.
This beer is a reminder of a spice cake with plums. It is a sweet beer, a bit sweeter than I am fan of for an Old Ale. Overall this a tasty beer.

Draft at ME downtown taproom. Ruddy brown pour, a few bubbles. Aroma and taste are malty, cinnamon, tannins. Sweet, not much warmth, not much plum either.

this is wildly interesting stuff, a barrel aged old ale to start, than given a spiced plum treatment, not really sure what that entails, these guys tend to be a little vague with the details on these, sometimes intentionally so i feel like, but i cant complain, this is awesome, one of the best in the series, especially if you arent turned off by some residual sugar. a maple colored brew, maybe a little deeper even than that, without a ton of head from the tap and a lot of viscosity. it smells incredible, star anise and clove, black pepper and allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg, definite fruit cake vibes, even the malt and the alcohol play in that direction, there is real prune and plum fruitiness here too, this is festive and boozy and awesome. i like the vanilla and brown sugar coming through with the oak and the whiskey, its strong but its flavorful in the best way. not overly fruited, almost more of an estery thing than real plums, raisins too maybe, chewy dates, and with the warming spice and the slightly hot alcohol all on the back half of this. lots of body, minimal carbonation, i dont really miss it, super sweet but in a good way, i love the aftertaste on my teeth. really unique, hits on spiced plum jam for sure, anise and clove in the lead for me on the spice side, just really thoughtful and good. dont miss this one! the pink cans should make that impossible...
