A: The pour is a dark brown, almost cola-like, with a good tan head to go with it.
S: The nose opens up with lots of burnt characteristics. Ash and burnt sugar along with tons of roasted malt. Some mild coffee aromas, but not much chocolate. There's a bit of an acidic note to this as well.
T: Burnt malts and ash start this off. Intensely bitter and astringent overall. There's a decent coffee flavor but it doesn't do much to help out the rest of the beer which is just not enjoyable. Apparently this was barrel aged, but I don't get any whiskey, oak, or vanilla out of it.
M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation. Sort of harsh, bitter, and astringent on the tongue.
D: I'm not sure that even age would help this one out. Incredibly harsh and just burnt.
