We just kicked off 2024 strong with Urban Solace – Another Hazy IPA featuring a rock star triplet of hops in Galaxy, Citra, and experimental “HBC 1019” from The Hop Breeding Company. The aroma of HBC 1019 has been described as "a potent but pleasing mix of citrus, tropical, and stone fruits. With notes of coconut, Valencia oranges, caramelized bananas, peaches.

16oz can from Hops & Bottles. Hazy orange golden pour, thin, tight layer of head. Aroma starts tropical, light stone fruit, light hop bitterness. Taste turns to the stone fruit, peach, apricot, then melon. A dull dry, bitterness lingers on the palate.

this series continues to impress, and the use of the experimental hbc 1019 here makes this real unique, all in my family here look forward to these, and it seems like the rate of new releases has picked up, way cool. love this hop, think it definitely has a future, and they did a nice job rounding out the profile with the galaxy and citra, it reads complete, wide spectrum, and layered. faded orange looking, high headed, tiny bubbles but a lot of them, a little starchy and soupy, high oats and wheat likely, not gross looking but maybe a half step less refined than the most visually appealing of these. the aroma is awesome though, definite peaches and peach candy, bruised and ripe and summery and real, with some herbal character from the new hop, to me an almost dill thing, verbena, white tea, white florals, and more familiar lemony citra and limey galaxy, and it comes in waves, some coconut as it warms, oily in a good way, not vegetal at all for its overall hop intensity. the flavor is peak freshness, grapefruit zest, mango, more peach, some middle sweetness but dry by the end, and i can taste and feel the oats, not quite grain stew or porridge but there is some definite body and density from them, i think the hops bond to it though and ride it long, i love how pure the hops taste the whole way, even past the swallow. citra comes out more and more as i drink on this, mandarin orange too, and the herbal character. i look forward to more beers with this hbc 1019 in it, do i get a light berry note from it too at the end? really good ipa, perhaps a little too filling to make a night of it, but another banger from this project x series.

Consumed from a modified perfect pint glass with etched carbonation initiation grid 6 weeks after canning date of 1/10/24. Yellow grapefruit color, opaque haze, no solids visible, good lacing, very long lasting 1/2 to 1 finger white, dense, almost creamy head. Powerful citrus (mostly grapefruit) plus some lesser tropical fruit on smell and flavor. Very smooth mouthfeel. Very mild carbonation.
