their second collaboration with mill 95. this time a west coast type pils with lots and lots of hops, but this isnt super well executed as a base pils, and this one really didnt hit for me. that said, ive been appreciative of all the new small batch stuff here of late, good to see them innovating, even if this one falls a little flat. the clarity is good, the bright yellow pops, and the head is airy and white with fine retention, looks really nice, but that should never be a beers best feature. the nose is onions and dish soap, issues to me with both the hops and the ferment, either selection or deployment on the former, and without the patient cold crispness this should have, its faintly chemical, keeps a lot of sugar, just isnt tidy on the latter. the flavor is similar, i get plenty from the malt, not quite european to me, but full of character, crackery and lightly baked, way fuller body and heavier in the belly than would be refreshing, limiting even if this tasted good. the hops have green onion, grass, and bitter pithy citrus, i get the boldness but they dont seem well integrated or fresh, could be idaho 7 in this doing that, i think an overrated varietal, but whatever is in here is especially unflattering and especially at temperature. carbonation is fine but its too late to save this, its not brisk and doesnt even seem lagered really in texture, other than the fact that i can taste the lager yeast specifically. bold in the wrong places, not great, and thats two pils types in a row from this pilot system that have been lackluster...
