new one from these guys on tap downtown, super sweet, problematically so for me, super boozy, and it warms up really poorly. the hop profile is terpene boosted but its not refined, its over the top, and even though its not crazy bitter, in fact i didnt find it too bitter at all, its overdosed on hops anyway, and to me this presents as a little extreme for the sake of it, like the size doesnt really add anything, and while there are parts of this i like, its a lot of beer in the glass and a hard one to get through, much as i appreciate seeing some new ones from these guys recently, this isnt a big hit for me. rich brassy golden color with some shine and near perfect clarity, airy fizzy thinning white head, looks fine in the glass, leggy and visually sweet to me. the nose is baked and warm, boozy and even fusel, sharp in a weird way, with red berries, pine sap, and engineered weed in the nose, fresh but maybe a little overly malty, even kind of candied, not bready and heavy, but hearty anyway, exposed a bit, and it has undertones of key lime and lime leaf, wood polish, and menthol. the flavor has quite a lot of pale barley to it, lots of alcohol too even though i wish it was fermented down a little more, these guys have been leaving everything sweet lately, not my favorite choice, and this one really lingers even before the hops and terpenes. lemon and lemon cleaner, a little green pepper, kiwi fruit and not quite ripe green melon, verdant like that, certainly fresh, almost spicy from the alcohol at the end but not all that hop bitter, oily, limey, fairly permanent on the teeth and palate. some odd recipe elements to this, weird proportions, and a total booze bomb. unique to sip on, but also somewhat fatiguing for me, better when its colder and first poured, real sweet after that. not my favorite of their recent crop of new beers, not at all...
