really nice fresh hop pils here with vera, which is new, and mosaic, not overdone but distinctive and obviously done with fresh hops, a really well refined base beer too, been loving their fresh hop offerings this year, some of the latest small batch stuff has been excellent, and i was real pleased with this overall, i think vera has a future, certainly its nice in this context, in front of the more familiar mosaic to my senses here. great clarity, just looks like a pils in the glass, not less refined, as sometimes the fresh hop beers can be, at least visually, but not this one. the aroma is unique with the vera hops, ripe strawberry and lije lychee sort of fruitiness to it, summery and floral as well, easy, kind of feminine in a compelling way, hibiscus without the bitter, great with the pineapple and grassy character the mosaic brings, nothing catty here at all, and the same is true in the taste. this might lean west coast pils, there is some bitterness and its the hops that do the heavy lifting, but this doesnt lose its identity to the hops, which i think is a win, still really bright fresh and faintly sweet pils malt at its core, and the lager yeast is low on flavor but so obvious in texture, this is crisp and fast and clean, even with some hop oils trying to linger, the cold ferment makes this quick and professionally tidy, awesome, that should not be overlooked. the vera has more red berry as this warms, some fruity sativa weedy vibes, meyer lemon, honeysuckle and verbena herbal appeal, and i get a mimosa note with the mosaic as well, that white grape and orange together thing. very distinct, very good, nice balance, green in a good way, dug it. will be on the lookout for more beers featuring vera, fresh or otherwise, ive only had a handful but have been stoked on all of them, could be the next big thing...
