Like the raging waves of the Gauley River, this barleywine style ale packs a punch! Tumble Home is named for the last drop of Lost Paddle, the longest class V rapid on the Gauley. Strong, boozy and delicious, this beer will have you riding the waves without setting foot in a boat. Cheers!

Tumble Home (Bottled 20 May 2018) was reviewed side-by-side with Barrel Aged Tumble Home (Bottled 14 Dec. 2017).
This beer is lightly foggy like amber honey (SRM 7-9) and slightly lighter then the BA version. A thin almond head is formed from fine bubbles and is shallower than the base beer. Spotty lace and a thin viscus film form on the goblet glass with no legs.
The aroma has fragile fruitiness, with apple being apparent. There is no booziness or oak, as found in the BA version. The unpleasant solvent fumes are here, though far lower than the BA version and easily overlooked. This aroma is radically different than the BA version.
Apples, pairs and some oak open with an initial bitter / sweet balance. Bitterness takes control shortly after each sip, with some acrid notes being strong in the long finish. While less harsh than the BA version, this beer still lacks the pleasantries expected from a Barleywine. Warmth seems to have no impact, unlike in the BA version.
A medium to full body with a soft nylon texture. Carbonation is light and prickly. Alcohol is as expected and far less harsh than in the BA version.
I'm unsure what to make of this beer. Perhaps 2.5 years in the bottle was unkind, however this age typically aids a Barleywine. While a decent beer for casual conversation on a cold late Autumn afternoon, other offerings from Bridge Brew Works will provide a far superior experience.
