An American Ale, Smooth and Crisp. Two Words: Happy. Hour. Gamblers Golden is a nice after work thirst quencher. A refreshing beer to enjoy after a long day at the office, following a hard day of yard work in the summer, or a great light beer to take the edge off a cold winters day. Pairs well with just about food, this beer is as versatile as your favorite white t-shirt. Especially consider this beer as a tongue smoother for bold spicy dishes, so make sure you take a growler home for when the menu includes Hot Tamales or Cajun Creole. If you normally drink Gamblers, and want to be step out of the box you may also want to try our Second Wind Wheat. We think you will love it as much as Gamblers.

Look: Hazy yellow with a decent white head that sticks around.

Smell: Malt, a bit of piney hops, citrus, grass.

Taste: Not great. Extremely little flavor with a sort of metallic bitterness, not unlike an adjunct lager. I'm wondering if corn or rice might be used to pad out the barley.

Mouthfeel: Thin and average carbonation.

Overall: Pretty bad, honestly. While the smell is nice, the taste is absolutely off.

12 ounce can into pint glass, no can dating. Pours lightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with solid retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light herbal/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.2%. Overall this is a nice Blonde ale. All around nice balance and robustness of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, clean, and refreshing to drink. Not overly yeasty, but a bit fruitier overall; still very well balanced and flavorful for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable and well made style example.

A light golden ale like this doesn't leave much room for error and it definitely showed in this beer. The flavor just wasn't clean enough. Of the beers I tried at Mountain Town this was my least favorite.

This beer was definitely not my favorite beer that I've had from Mt. Pleasant Brewing Company. It seemed very simple and not a whole lot of flavor. It was a little bit spicy and had some hops to it but other than that it didnt have too much flavor. That being said it was fairly easy going down....

Ouch. This is so bad on so many levels that I really don't know where to start. Bitter and acidic tang and just a mess of a flavor profile. This is a clear miss as far as any goal that may have been the aim. If there was even one in the first place?

Not too many micro's that come out with a light ale. Hats off to them for bringing this to market to allow folks who are used to drinking American mass producted swill to move into a easy drinking Michigan micro brew. Lighter than Sam Adams but more flavor then the Bud and Miller's of the world.

A hazy golden color body with a small fizzy white head , quickly fading leaving a small amount of lacing , medium carbonation . Aroma is of corn , spent grain , grassy hops , slightly metallic . Flavor is spicy hops , dry grain ,and sweet corn , slightly metallic . Medium body , creamy mouthfeel ,short spicy hop finish , quite sessionable . A middle of the road ale , from a pretty good brewry .

This beer was basically a more expensive form of miller lite. It was very drinkable, and had slight spicy/hop flavoring, but overall it was just an unexciting filler beer in my opinion. By far the worst beer I had at Mt. Pleasant Brewing Company, I wonder why the brewery would produce a beer that is already so mass-produced without doing anything unique within the style.

Very little aroma. Pouring down the middle of a Pilsner pint glass produced very little head that dissipated quickly, with few small bubbles remaining.

A clear golden yellow, the beer is well carbonated in the mouth, despite the disappearing head. It does little to help the thin grain flavor, which is propped up by a decent hop presence.

Overall, very drinkable at a session of Texas hold-em, would go well with a pair of jacks. Fold if anyone raises the bet though.

Rich goldenrod with lemonade colored borders. The head is eggshell in color and is on the soft and crackly side. It doesn't deflate too quickly, though it does leave the glass almost spotless. Forget almost.

The nose is simple and straightforward. Lightly sweet cereal grains, mildly musky hops and a touch of yeasty fruitiness make GGA smell like the ale version of an American pale lager. It isn't American pale ale-like though; that's a different beast entirely.

Gamblers Golden Ale is pretty good beer if your expectations aren't sky-high. It definitely benefits by being fresh (as all lower ABV beer does). Looks like this brewery has been in business for a few years, but only started bottling in the past several months.

Palate impressions are pretty much the same as nasal impressions. There's a little more sweetness here than in most pale lagers and a little more flavor too. Again, thank the yeast for that. Flavors include sugared golden grain with a touch of (probably German) hoppiness, as well as green apples and a small splash of lemon juice. Those last two join the party as the beer begins to warm. Not good.

The mouthfeel is okay with respect to size, but the bubbles are sharp-edged. The result is a minor annoyance with each mouthful, rather than a soft, smooth silkiness. Time doesn't seem to be quieting things down much at all.

It appears as though Mt. Pleasant Brewing Company isn't looking to hit the jackpot with Gamblers Golden Ale. Then again, the style pretty much dictates a 'safe bet' kind of beer. These guys are competent, but they haven't shown me anything to get excited about so far.
