65ml pour into what looks like a mini wine glass at Hashigo Zake 6/4/14
Listed as an Eisbock as I felt it was the best fit for style
A glows ruby red, no head or lace as expected, looks a little syrupy, legs down the side, looks more like a liqueur and I suppose it should
S much of the stout aspect from the original is gone, black currents come out, strawberries, cherries, molasses, some oak and booze but not as crazy as expected, just a hint of tobacco and raisin
T strange how different it tastes, some of the stout notes come out with a little chocolate and coffee, booze comes out a little more, has some fortified wine in there, still woody, interesting to say the least
M syrupy and hot, again this is to be expected, a little numbing with some burn on gums and sticky on the lips, some tannins and my mouth feels like its radiating heat, barrel lingers on the finish
O very interesting stuff, like a stout liqueur infused with pinot barrel, I can't think of anything else like it
Pretty stoked to see something like this on a tap list in Wellington, pretty happy to stumble on to such an extreme rarity. I'm wondering if this is the strongest beer made south of the equator.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
