2012 Vintage
An almost clear honey-coloured pour. Small initial off-white head that falls away to a ring atop the beer quickly. Lacing is minimal and short-lived.
Heavy sour green apple, peach pits, hints of small tart grapes. Massive woody funk. Wet hay and sweat finish.
White wine, clearly. Wood is too much at times, at others it seems to balance itself with a grapey sweetness. Sourness (again: peach pit) comes through in the finish, cleaning away any lingering barrel.
Light-medium bodied. Low carbonation. A touch dry finish.
What it says on the bottle. Bold white wine presence with a solid oak backing and a nice supporting sourness.

Golden color. Small head. Very strong woody flavor; overpowering. Too caramely and sweet-seeming.

A - pours a nice hazy honeycomb colour with a thin white head that retains well.
S - Nice wooded aromas of apple and green grape. The Chardonnay character really comes through. Horse blanket also very abundent
T - wow. Nicely balanced flavours of wood and white wine. Given that the chardonnay is an oak aged wine this really does come through., the Brett eases its way in and dominates at the back palate.
M - Light to medium body with low carbonation
O - Well what a pocket rocket this one is. It delivers on what it says and yet retains balance. This is one of the very best brews I have had from NZ. Very much recommended.

Bottle pour at Shelton Brothers The Festival 2014 held at Crafted in San Pedro, CA.
2012 vintage.
Pours a hazy gold with a foamy bone head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, grain, fruit, white wine, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with sour grain, fruit, white wine, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity and wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with really nice white wine barrel aged characteristics all around.
Serving type: bottle.
