Originally named The Sultan of Swing, I have brewed this beer every year since I started home brewing. Every batch has been different but it was always Belgian inspired and always brewed with a large dose of sultanas. This commercial batch is the fifth version and I finally decided to base it on a Belgian Quadrupel.

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate but lasting off-white head. Moderate aroma of sultanas, oaked fortified wine, rum-raisin and liqueur-filled chocolates. The flavour is oaky / woody with notes of sultanas / raisins and other dark dried fruits, but not nearly as sweet as I feared. The hops are very moderate. Nice and drinkable, but has not quite the complexity of the best Belgian ales in the abt / quadrupel style. Still well worth sampling.

Bottled in 2011; drank 2/23/14.
Poured from a bottle into a glass.
Murky dark plum color.
Tan head; thick lacing.
Caramel & dark fruit nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Dry plum up front, with a boozy, cloying caramel finish. Dry yet cloying?! Not ideal. Barely worth drinking.

A: Pours an opaque purplish red with a tan head.
S: Grape, lemon, orange, funky belgian yeast and malt in the nose.
T: Lemony with some kiwi, orange and grapefruit peels, some funky belgian yeast and malt.
M: Medium bodied and smooth.
O: This was not the hoppy nz hop quad I was hoping for. It was decent, a bit of a cross between a quad and a wild ale, with the Belgian funkiness. Recommended.
