This is a pretty easy drinker, though it has more of a bite than I would want for the style. Kind of an acidic and spicy bite kind of thing. A good bit of grass on there too. Nice enough for a starter here, but probably not something I would go for again.

On-tap at Social Kitchen
A: The pour is a pale straw color with a nice finger or so worth of white head and some moderate lacing.
S: Floral and earthy hops to start with a slight piney note, which isn't really normal. There is a bit of corn to go along with is otherwise a fairly bready malt aroma.
T: Quite bitter for a kolsch, probably too much so. There's a fairly resinous pine character along with the usual earthy hop flavor. Some bread and biscuit pale malts provide the base.
M: The body is on the light end of medium with a fairly high level of carbonation.
D: Probably the best beer these guys make. Pretty decent kolsch, even if it's not exactly to style.

Very light color, looks like a pils mixed with lemonade. Uncomplicated, refreshing, clean. Warm, earthy grain and some hops. Basically, it is beer. It goes down easy, and it would match with just about any food. Too bad you can't get this in a bottle, it would be great to take a six pack to a barbecue in hot weather.

On tap at the Social Kitchen & Brewery.
A: Served in a stange, it arrives a clear straw-lemon colored body with a finger of well-retaining off-white head. Some lacing down the glass as I sip, mostly remnants from the moderate collar on the brew.
S: Lemon hops and a general grassy aroma. I pick up a hint of pilsner malt and a nice characteristic of bread.
T: Follows the nose nicely. A light blend of lemony and grassy hops; without even looking at the bill I'd guess this was a Noble hop creation and probably a kölsch. Fairly tasty.
M: Light-medium bodied; not as crisp as I'd like for the style. It filled me up more than anticipated, and I left a portion of the glass on the table.
D: Seems much better than t0rin0's experience. I gather they tweaked their beer. Still, I prefer Yellowtail to this one. I'd have it again, as it seems they are actively working on dialing in their recipes.

Poured for me by the brewer into a Kölsch style glass.
Pours darker brown (not dark really, just darker than straw colored) than any Kölsch that I've ever seen but it is characteristically clear. It also has a nice silky smooth white head on it.
Oddly this beer has a hint (very slight) of roast in the nose. It has the Kölsch yeast smell alright and the faintest hint of hops.
Flavor follows suit. Makes me think Kölsch meets a porter (80/20). Pretty enjoyable but not to style. I scored it half way between.
Light and crisp, not too bitter, not too sugary, just right. A nice go to beer. How many more times can I say Kölsch in this review?

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
