I tried this at the brewery. It poured a clear amber with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had subtle citrus peel notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bitter hop presence some citrus flare. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer.

I wish there was more happening in the glass, but there isn't. The bitter finish lingers a mite too long, and the flavors detectable in the body just aren't popping out. Pretty average IPA, I'll probably buy something else next time.

Poured into nonic at around 38°F
The look is a deep red, as a person who's all about color in beers, I can say this is one of the best colors in a beer I've seen.
The smell isn't super potent, smells of balanced hops, and lightly of rye
The taste is dense and complex, the 7% version of this ale tastes as dense as a double IPA, the hops are prominent and more bitter than the smell leads on. the malt is mainly detectable in the feel
Overall this is a very interesting and complex tasting ale, I'd like to try it a half dozen times just so I could get my head around it

Appearance: Beautiful dark copper-almost reddish with one finger offwhite head that dissipates quickly with minimal lacing.
Smell: Rye, malts, biscuit. I don't get any citrus aromas.
Taste: I get rye, some hop and then the malt.
Feel: a bit harsh. Aftertaste is bitter in a way that is not optimal.
Overall: I'm not sure rye is best with an IPA. A session should be smoother.
But the look is almost perfection.

From the can in a snifter. This nice rye ipa pours a nice burnished cloudy copper color with
a nice head of white foam that settles to a thin ring, light pool, and features nice lacing. Nose of
spicy rye, piney hop notes, and toasted malts. Flavors exceed the nose by presentation with spicy
rye and subtle orange zest notes colliding into a firm malt backbone of toasted malts with subtle
biscuit and beefy piney hops leaving a sticky and resinous hop flavor on the rear of the taste.
Nice mouth feel, smooth, quenching, light grain notes appear with warmth and finish with a bitter
pine note with a touch of rye spice. As far as rye brews go this is one nice little brew that is worth a
try.
Cheers

I'm in Moab, UT this weekend and stopped at the grocery store to grab a 6 pack of something local. Found this beer and turns out the microbrewery was the next building over. I wish I would've gone to check it out there because the beer from the 16oz can wasn't that great. This is 4% alcohol content NOT 7% by the way. I didn't enjoy the taste and the aftertaste is bad - lingers a very long time too.

This is the 7% ABV beer from the 16 oz can. Purchased at the cheerful Utah State liquor store in Sugar House. A nice surprise. I've had the Desert Select Rye Ale but this seems to be a different critter.
Color is dark reddish amber with a long-lasting foam. Very aromatic. Hops are Chinook, Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe. It's plenty hoppy but not overly bitter. The flavor is what I call musty, with the spicy rye aftertaste. It's rather sweet, like a DIPA, but not so strong.
The flavor is quite bold. Grainy but mellow. Overall, this is an interesting and highly drinkable beer that adds another affordable option to the high-point Utah beer selection. It's also one of the better Rye beers I've had, for being such a flavorful and complex concoction.
