Had a pint on-tap at the Rustler Lodge Bar in Alta, Utah. Some lacing was retained in the pint glass.

A - Rust with about half an inch of head.

S - An excellent balance of hops (piney) and malt (a light caramel) a very nice nose.

T - Taste matches the nose nicely. Some dark chocolate notes became apparent that were hidden on the nose. A little thin but other than that a very good beer.

M - Light and a little thin. Expected due to the thinness in the taste. However, this beer was not without a lingering finish - mainly the dark chocolate and caramel.

D - Truly exceptional. The taste and smell here bring to mind bigger ales, however this comes in at almost half the alcohol content making it an excellent session beer.

Ok, steam beer from a growler friends brought to me from Moab. I expect some loss of carbonation on this one. And I am completely wrong. A good 'hiss' as the cap is twisted off. Pours a light copper, rusty gold. Fantastic head, billowing foam, sticky and nice lacing all the way down as it drank.
Light bready aroma. Some spices of hops lightly sing in the background, nothing powerful. Fresh.
Light taste, but not weak. Again, light bread with some fresh caramel, some florals and a hint of hop bitterness.
Smooth and light. Refreshing and very easy drinking. Very nice session beer.

I enjoyed this beer on tap at the brew pub after a hard hike in Arches National Park on a day when the tempreatrue topped 105 degrees!!!

A: It poured a cloudy pale golden body with a modest head that retained well and supported a dense even lacing.

S: It had a sweet citrusy aroma that was dominated by lightly roasted malts.

T: It presents a creamy and lemony malt flavor that is well balanced with a zip of spicy hops. It finished dry and clean.

M: It was light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a clean finish and virtually no aftertaste.

D: Very refreshing on a hot day when your thirst need quenching. Excellent balance, flavor and finish. It would be a great summer time session beer.

Pours a dark orange color, nice carbonation, nice little creamy head, some sticky lacing follows. The nose is malty, and a good dose of caramel. The taste follows the nose on the most part. Medium body. Very drinkable, another I would like to see bottled.

Orangish color with an attractive white head, which left a nice lace on the glass resembling the Wasatch range that is the origin of the beer's appellation. Appetizing scent, bready, grassy, and floral, but nothing spectacular. Nicely balanced between hops and malts -- sweet like challah, but with a number of different hop notes. The finish is similar to Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale in terms of bitterness, but less crisp, probably due to the malts and the lager yeast. A tasty steamer, that goes down smooth. If it were served at my neighborhood bar, it would be a nice after-work beer.

Wanted to update for the 2008, as I feel that they changed the recipe...

Looks a little darker than before, more of an amber than an orange. The biggest difference is in the hops -- the Steamers I had at the Goldminer's Daughter (Alta) -- both in the cafeteria on the first floor and in the bar on the second floor -- had a very distinctive fresh hop flavor -- I could recognize it, but not name it -- piney/herbal -- not spicy or bitter. Could be drier, but it sure goes down easy. Very different from Anchor Steam, but, at 4%, a great session beer with a tasty hoppy flavor that's very different from any other commercial beer I've ever had.

On-tap at the brewpub: Dark hazey golden bronze color, nice compact off-white head of tight foam sits a top, lace in stitching flakes. Aroma is dry with a grassy bready maltyness, bits of floral hops and a bit of starch. Taste is quite nice, good balance, malts are welcoming at the front with a short sweet bread notion, hops mildly enter with grasses and dull floralness, a bit earthy. Feel stays wet and loose, with a somewhat low carbonation, and a light creamy dryness. This is actually quite a nice little appetizer to open the night with.

This is an interesting take on a steam beer. Most breweries let the lager yeast and Northern Brewer hops meld to create the main flavor characteristics. Moab has brought out more of the malt character in this steam beer. It is quite tasty, but I prefer a drier steamer.
