On nitro-tap at River House brewpub on 3/6/11.

A - This sexy-ass nitro pour boasts a dark coffee brown liquid with reddish highlights around the edges and a super creamy nougat-colored head that retained amazingly and produced some exquisite lacing all around the glass.

S - Bold vanilla and coffee notes combine artfully to create a wonderful base aroma, while light herbal and perfumy hop notes add a hint of bitterness to the otherwise sweet nose. Wonderful aroma overall.

T - Lush, sweet vanilla and roasted coffee notes segue into mild hop notes and a wash of earthy bitterness in the backend. Simply a delicious nitro stout with tons of flavor.

M - Solid medium body with an extremely smooth, creamy texture that isn't watery or flimsy at all. Mouthfeel is nice and silky like lingerie. Finishes sweet with just a touch of bitterness on the palate.

D - OK, I'm going to go out on a limb here and announce that this is one of the best nitro stouts I've ever had. Vanilla Latte Stout is just really flavorful and tasty as hell, not to mention easy to drink. I was digging this more and more with each passing sip. Great work!

A nitro pour at the Milton brewpub.

A: The stout is black, dark and forboding. Offsetting the deep colors is a tan head, much lighter than the body. The nitro thickens the head, resulting in stratified lace as I worked through it.

S: The nose is rich with vanilla, an excessively sweet aroma that does its best to crowd out the other aspects of the stout. The supporting characters here include chocolate, coffee, lactose and burnt toast. The nitro accentuates the vanilla aspect.

T: Quite a bit going on here. As in the nose, vanilla is a leading taste, sweet and syrupy. Alongside the vanilla, espresso stands on its own, a roasted java flavor that benefits from the soothing vanilla. Chocolate and lactic sweetness follow, as the stout turns to its roasted roots. I really like the espresso vanilla combination at the start of the ale. The nitrogenated stout is creamy smooth, accentuating the lactic characteristics.

M: The mouthfeel is rich but not too strong or too sweet. Vanilla is powerful but the underlying espresso and lactose compensate adequately.

D: A light weight stout. Pairing lactic oatmeal, vanilla and espresso together was a brilliant move. A nice stout to see again.
