On tap at the brewpub served in a pint glass. This brew appears a copper brown color with a thin line of white head. Thin fingers of lace stick to the glass. A light swirl hardly releases a few bubbles to the top.
The smell of this brew is very smokey almost like pete moss. The smoked character nearly completely dominates all other aspects of the aroma. A faint note of toasty caramel malt is evident under the smoked quality mixed with a touch of fruity hops.
The taste is as smokey as the aroma leads on. It imparts a flavor that is reminiscent of bacon. Some residual sweetness is present which provides some flavors of caramel malt. The alcohol is there with a fruity touch which makes for an interesting flip of flavors between smoked/dry and fruity/sweet.
This is a medium to light bodied brew with a light level of carbonation. It could use a bump up in the carbonation level which would make it seem less watery. However it is decently drinkable just more smoked than I was anticipating or the style. A tingle of alcohol is evident which is right in line with the expected 6% abv. Worth a try, not bad.
