Poured from tap at brewery.

What an unimpressive barley-wine. This brew is super sweet, overly alcoholic, and aggressive it seems just for the sake of being so. The aromatics are nice, lots of fig, and fresh fruit, some sweets; but the palate is overly sweet with the alcohol punching you in the tongue and cheek.

I drink a lot of barley-wine, and this one doesn't come close to most (if in Portland, try the Full Sail barley-wine at their McCormick and Schmicks brewery).

This was not listed as the Old Battle Axe on the beer list, but I suppose it's possible that it was. Somehow, though, as I ponder Mt Hood Brewing, I doubt they would change the name and not the recipe. Just a hunch. Could be wrong...

Ap - light brown/amber, little head or lace

Ar - toffee, sweet pale malts, caramel, alcohol

Tst - pretty nice... toffee, caramel (much like the nose), and hoppy/alcoholic enough to suggest to me that it needs a little time to come together. Has great potential.

Mthfl - medium full, and a bit oily

Drnk - right now... so-so. In six months, I'm thinking this will be far too easy to drink for a high ABV beer.
