Subtle Beast - Kentucky Rye Barrel Aged

22 ounce bottle, purchased on its release day (5/1/2018) at the Falls City Taproom. Had some on tap that day, and drinking my bottle now! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. I like the aroma, the brew smells like rye whiskey, vanilla, oak, dark fruit, roasted malt and chocolate. For the most part I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but with the addition of some dark bread, coffee and licorice flavors. Nice barrel character in the aroma and taste. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's smooth and a bit creamy and coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked the regular Subtle Beast, and I think this version is a good beer too. Glad I bought this, certainly worth picking up if you're into imperial stouts!
