Appearance: The body is an orange-gold color that has low saturation of color and is a bit dark. The head is large and white with good lacing but poor retention.
Aroma: There is a light roasted chestnut scent.
Taste; The beer starts of big and malty with a big toasted nut flavor and a sweet tasting bread character. It has an abundance of kilned grain flavor.
Mouthfeel: It's medium bodied with a higher than average bitterness. Feels a bit thick as well.
Overall: This is an Imperial version of an Oktoberfestbier but aside from the higher claimed alcohol content ("8% ALC. BY VOL." as indicated by the label) it doesn't have much to offer. Perhaps the recipe is off or something because the beer feels higher in bitterness and a lot of kilned grain flavor rather than a smooth and easy drinking beer. I probably wouldn't drink it again and I don't really recommend it. It's certainly not a bad beer but you would be better off sticking with two solid Oktoberfestbiers rather than a dodgy imperial one.
