Another real winner from O'Connor!!! Picked up a 12 oz can at the Casual Pint in Virginia Beach VA. A strong beer at 11.5% .abv. Pours a dense black color with a big dark tan/light brown frothy head. Head retention is very good for a strong beer and there is thick frothy bands of lacing on the pint glass. I was very surprised at the size and longevity of the head in a beer this strong!!! The aroma is coffee and malt as you would expect but there is a nice, strong aromatic note too. The can says there is vanilla, coconut and lactose and the aroma and taste beat this out! This is supposed to be a bourbon barrel aged beer, but, except for a little oak bitterness, I didn't notice any bourbon barrel aspects (which in many beers can be overpowering!!). This is a really flavorful stout. Mouthfeel is rich, the alcohol is warming rather than harsh or burning. The rich flavor adds to the feel. Both of the Ibrik beers I have tried from O'Connor have been outstanding. I am not going to discount this beer because of a lack of bourbon barrel flavor.
