The beer pours a dark browned amber, topped with a thick, fluffy off white head. Some sticky lacing, more in the beginning. The head dies out completely about 3/4 of the way through. To it's credit, I was nursing the beer, and it lasted at least an hour.
Aroma is very malty, with tons of caramel and solid toastiness. Rich roasted malt, with some dark fruit coming through from behind. A hint of pear, plum, fig, and a touch of date. Apparent alcohol.
The flavor is thick, rich, and decadent. Gigantic, chewy mouthfeel, with an almost milky consistency. Very low carbonation that has trouble forging through. Extremely smooth on the tongue. Gravity on this much be huge. Very sweetly malty up front, mainly a toasty caramel, with a hint of over-ripe fruitiness coming through and lingering into the middle. Notes of date, plum, and raisin. Malts are a bit grainy, particularly in the aftertaste. No apparent hops, with the finish dominated by a rich toasty maltiness, and a hint of roasted barley. Very sweet. Alcohol comes through the end slightly, providing a light warmth in your stomach. Drinkable and delicious, although I don't think i could make a habit of this beer.
A big, powerful brew. An excellent choice for dessert after a meat and potatoes kind of meal.

Crystal clear deep ruby hue. Dense, creamy, persistent light tan head leaves muddled lace. Rich toffee and buttered toast upfront in aroma, along with mellow notes of caramelized nuts and faintly herbal hops. Fruity, alcohol laced red licorice waft with a swirl. Light caramel sweetness initially in flavor is ensued by a melange of pseudo - buttery and roasty melanoidins and rounded, toasty Munich malt. Notes of stately, dry date like fruit and sugared, nut rich brittle complement the persistent toffee undertone, lending overall balance despite the low hop bitterness. Becomes bready sweet late, leaving an impression of turbinado sprinkled bread crust. Trace herbal tinge of hops persists throughout. A touch lightly bodied to match the rich malt overtones, but smooth in mouthfeel and sufficiently dextrinous nonethekess. Finishes with a quick snap of sherryish alcohol and fleeting burnt caramel. A very tasty, well rounded doppelbock that stands up very well to the great German examples. Nearly luscious.

Don’t I wish this brewery was down the street, I’d have a private tap, but alas poor “Gusler” must plead with his fellow beer lovers for the occasional bottle to be sent to the poor fellow?

The personable deep ruby red color on the pour with a purposeful head, frothy in texture and the lace a nice thick and clinging sheet. Cotton candy sweet the aromas of malt and even molasses appear to be dominant, light hints of coffee? Well at any rate a real “Sniffer”. Scrumptious start, the top middling in its mouth feel, with delicate hop presence, delightfully carbonated, long lasting droughty aftertaste, and a top-notch representative to the style.

12 oz brown long neck bottle with no freshness date or info about the beer. Sturdy two fingered light tan head stays around long enough to be noticed. Bright reddish brown colour that shimmers its clarity.

Big malty aroma of caramel, faint ripe fruit, light waft of alcohol, and a faint smokiness.

Thick, almost syrupy, full body. Carbonation is moderate and lacking in a way though does not take away from the brew much at all though leaves the mouth feel in a viscous state. Malt is layered and spread out, sweetness is there without a doubt. Layers of caramel, toasted and faintly roasted malt explode on to the palate. Hop are held to a minimum which is fine, alcohol is laidback with a slowly warming sensation. The aftertaste is bombarded with toasted grain flavours lingering in its sweetness.

This is right up there with some of the imports, the only thing I’d want is more crispness / carbonation to bring the beer out a bit more not only in flavour but its other attributes. A brew I’d like to see come around year after year.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. No freshness date.

Appearance: Deep, dark brown colour ... crowned with a huge, creamy, foamy coffee coloured head -- excellent retention and stick!

Smell: Nice malty aromas, with dark ripe fruits (prune, plum). Clean. Appealing.

Taste: Ultra smooth and deliciously creamy on the palate. Body is medium, mouthfeel is even. Malt character is interesting. It's not overly sweet, nor is it big (gets sweeter as the beer warms). However it is complex, containing raisin, coffee, burnt sugar, caramel, some prune, strong grape and a mild astringency wrapped with light tannins. Hop flavours are a bit herbal, lightly spicy, then turns floral with a grassy hop character. Nutty yeast. Finish is dry, bitty, oily with notes of alcohol on the palate and breath.

Notes: One of the better beers from this highly experimental brewery. A good all around beer that's not as malty sweet and clean as other traditional doppelbocks, but still a very tasty beer and well worth trying if you cross paths with it. Prosit!

This is an excellent double bock, smooth creamy head nice and malty, I put it at the best that they brew. The ABV is 6.8%.

Another nice creation from Joe Z! Has a very dark brown color, with just a touch of ruby. Small head, dissipates quickly. Nose has a lot of coffeeish notes; none too sweet at all. Very good body and tongue-feel. Has more coffee notes in it's taste, a bit roasty, and even a hint of smokiness. Finishes dry. Not entirely what I was expecting for this style, but still a good brew. In some minor ways, reminds me of Celebrator, with the bitterness. Prosit!
