The 2024 iteration aged in Teeling whiskey barrels reminds me of Teeling’s Single Grain. Dark fruit flavours like red wine or port, toffee sweetness, and a syrupy sticky feel.

look: one finger smooth brown head which dissipates at a moderate speed for its strength, beer is jet black, no light bleeding through at all.
smell: big heavy malt aroma, meaty, black bread, smokey, cigar smoke, molasses, nicely sweet, demerera sugar, toffee, vanilla, whiskey of course, port, exciting.
taste: delicious, the malt flavour is just so good, black bread, meaty unami flavour, roasted toasty flavour, lot of espresso which i didn’t get so much of on the nose, as well as dark chocolate, nicely sweet, toffee, treacle, molasses, whiskey flavour is there but doesn’t overpower, some brandy and port too, a hint of dark fruit flavours, medium bitterness on the finish, smokey malt flavours linger, mmm.
feel: full bodied, lightly carbonated, lingering bitterness in the back of the tongue, dense motor oil consistency, lot of alcohol warming.
overall: a fantastic irish stout, a fantastic stout in its own right, this is the 2020 version i’m drinking, and it’s very good indeed.

Black body with generous hazelnut head with medium fine grain and good persistence. Very pronounced scent of whiskey, vanilla and wood, dark fruit. On the palate the entrance is slightly sweet, with malty notes, raw sugar, hints of plum, licorice and sauteed finish. Aftertaste with vanilla, wood and robust ethyl embrace. Medium and fine carbonation body. Drunk a little angular and the barricaded character clearly prevails over everything.

I like my beer like my metaphors, dark and strong. There is a serious heat behind this. I love it. It’s class. Thick and slow, as I have been described by many a teacher

This is the first time I've seen a whiskey maker put up on the label as it was a brewery collab. Cool to see this!
Very nice whiskey presence with a strong roasted character with a nice earthiness from the hops.
The mouthfeel is a bit thick with a low carbonation.
Nice

A future in-law sent this back across the sea to me, exciting. Looks like a typical stout. Aroma was boozy spirits, roasted malt. Flavor had this odd dough like aspect, roasted malt, and booze. Not really my cup of tea as far as whiskey barrel stouts go but I suspect that has more to do with the base beer.

500ml bottle bought from McHughs, Dublin
Poured pretty much pitch black even when held up to the light... Dirty burnt brown head poured to decent thickish covering then faded quickly to thin covering.. light patchy sticky lacing...
Aroma - Roasted coffee and cocoa to the fore with some oaky and vanilla notes coming through, leathery and slightly sooty, charcoal notes, toasted bread, chocolate maltiness, burnt toffee, treacle, earthy hints, light nuttiness, some light date and black cherries fruitiness, alcohol fairly noticeable...
Taste - Charred roasted dark chocolate malts up front mixed with strong espresso and vanilla, lots of hot warming alcohol, sooty, definite oakiness, vanilla, some faint piney hops, earthy, toffee, toasted nutty sweetness, some treacle, faint anise
Feel - Smooth and fairly creamy... medium to full bodied... a little on the boozy side to be too quaffable
Overall - A pretty good brew although it could maybe do with a few months just to mellow things out a bit as it is a touch hot and rough round the edges at present. I have another bottle so i will check again in a few months time...

Very Hot, a bit all over the place. Will revisit, needs a bit of time. Def not as good as BA Celebration, at least right now.
