Düll is in the hamlet of Gnodstadt, a burg of about 800 people located about 4km from the nearest rail station, Marktbreit. It's a small place situated on the corner of 2 hilly streets...easily found; there's not a whole lot here! There are a couple of benches out front for fair weather dining/quaffing, but I opted for inside on this cool, Fall day. Enter the main door to a long hallway. Not hearing or seeing anyone in the Stube, I proceed down the hall and (after a stop at the WC) poke my head into the kitchen. Sind Sie geoffnet? Ja, I'm assured. Cool... I'm ushered into the Stube and I order their specialty, a Pils. I'm glad I wasn't in a rush. It took about 10 minutes for the pour! As for the decor, the hall had a large display case filled with some way-old mugs and Bier bottles. Way cool! The Stube has a service bar to the right upon entering, with 6 big tables to the left, ahead of you, and in the far right corner. Each seats 6-8 patrons, and are worn smooth by time and many customers. The walls are festooned with old drawings, etchings, and about 2 dozen sets of antlers mounted in one particular corner. Behind and above the bar are more old mugs and steins. The corner table looks to be the Stammtisch, and old photos (of presumably the past owners and brewers) decorate that area. (There is also another room upstairs which I believe is used for special dinners and/or functions). The waittress was very friendly, and spoke great English upon learning I was American. She talked a lot about local breweries, offered tips on other, small villages with great Bier (like Aufseß), and even brought out some Bier guide-books for me to peruse. One major tip, though: order another round when not more than 1/2 done the previous. Like I said, it's a long pour! The Pils was top-shelf; one of the best I sampled. The place is warm, comfy, and traditional. Not easily accessible, but worth a visit.
