I've had this on tap at the brewery before. Decided to pick up a growler tonight. Poured into a OH Teku Glass.
A: Straw yellow, almost like a wheat beer. Very hazy. Good head retention with a lacing that follows no rules.
S: Signature Barrier IPA smell. Hard to describe it but most, if not all, Barrier's IPAs have this distinctive smell (in a good way). Plenty of tropical fruits, specifically mango and papaya. Slight white grape characteristic on the back end. Smells delicious.
T: Mango, Papaya and Grapefruit at the forefront. Definitely a bit of white grape on the back end. Super, super juicy, but plenty of bitterness to keep it from tasting like OJ. Nice backbone keeps this beer well balanced.
F: Medium-bodied, well carbonated.
O: This is a very solid IPA from Barrier. Kind of a new style IPA for them as most of their other IPAs are true examples of the style and not the new "New England" style. Very juicy but just the right amount of bitterness. This is my first interaction with Waimea hops and I'm definitely a fan. They seem like a hybrid of galaxy & wa-iti hops. Definitely recommend. Well done!
