Canned 5/1/18 with "MY ISLAND" on the bottom, it pours cloudy gold color with a thick 2-3 finger high white colored head that was packed with tiny bubbles, fading extremely slowly and leaving excellent foamy lacing coating the sides.
Smells of tangerine, orange peel, lemon zest, melon, citrus hops, tropical fruit, biscuit, a light caramel or sugary sweetness, some floral notes and then more soft citrus aromas like orange juice or lemon. It's got a lot of nice complexities and aromatics, but doesn't come off a dank. Fruity indeed, but on the mild side for a DIPA.
Tastes like it smells for the most part with the citrus dominating and the above mentioned tangerine, orange peel, lemon zest, melon, citrus hops, and tropical fruit, with the addition of clementine or blood orange, one of those sharp members of the orange family. The malt backbone is nice and subtle, with biscuit or graham cracker accents hitting before the toasted grains. Well balanced, the sweetness is spot on, but I wish the citrus hops were a little stronger and in my face.
Mouthfeel is creamy, smooth and very mellow with mild carbonation and a light bitterness. It drinks like a session IPA and hides the 8% ABV masterfully, making it dangerously easy to drink.
The can states "a movement to band together local independent stores and local breweries". Nice concept to foster and promote the local beer scene (called Locals to Locals), thankfully it's a good brew too.

Poured from a 16oz can into a speiglau IPA glass.
Look is a cloudy yellow with a frothy white head.
Aroma is mango and tangerine with a light biscuit malt.
Taste is light and fruity with just a slight pithy bitterness.
Delicious.

Sadly this reminds me of Sam Adams attempt at the style, only more citrussy. Very disappointed. Surprised on this one I must say. Over citrus, not balanced and overall a disappointment. Barriers regular offerings slay this beer. Surprised Sun City would put there name on this.

Local to Locals product - "a movement to band together local independent stores and local breweries" - brewed and canned at Barrier Beer in Oceanside... An "exclusive collaboration of Long Island breweries" - Barrier, Destination Unknown, Great South Bay, Greenport Harbor, Oyster Bay Brewing, Sand City, and Spider Bite, and distributed specifically to local beers stores here on Long Island...
Pours a hazy pale-medium gold with a fat mousse head... left lots of messy lace down the glass... suggestions of mild tropical and orchard fruits, smooth and creamy... Doesn't get too sweet like some fruit smoothie-type NEIPAs, but also avoids being too bitter... Mild in both departments... Some light hints of citrus, and some faint pine on the back end... A supremely mild and smooth product... Perhaps nothing people are going to lose their mind over, but a beer you could easy drink through very quickly and easily...
Bottom of the can indicates a 5/1/18 canning and the message, "My Island"
