Hoppy to be 4th review of Hopaveli.
Agree with 1st 3 reviewers this beer offers abundant complex aroma and chalky feel without being fussy.
Mosaic, Comet, and Summit combine for audacious brew. Great shore brewer.
a) Pours a hazed, opaque, pale gold that mounts a frothy, rocky head that lasts, films, and laces.
s) Best part: Dry aroma with medley of citrus fruit salad, - all somehow dry and powdery.
t) Follow with grapefruit dominant, but all the rinds mixed in a bowl, tempered by pine, berry, and long bitter hops.
f) I'd call this chalky, bright, cleansing body that finishes with long dry texture.
o) A bit of seaside too, overall a mighty orange sicle of a beer.

Barrier Brewing Company "Hopaveli"
16 fl. oz. can, coded "6/18/18 SIMON" and sampled on 9/10/18
$5.99 @ DeCicco & Sons, Brewster, NY

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what is this? I see it's a "2x Dry-hopped" IPA but other than that I'm in the dark. It's poured a cloudy golden body that appears slightly orange in the glass. Visible chunks of yeast are still visible in suspension - I'm hoping this is a New England style IPA or it's going to be a mess. The head is a solid finger-thick cap of creamy white, slightly off-white, foam. It looks good and the head seems to be holding. The aroma is citrusy, slightly piney, and perhaps a bit tropical but it's going to need to warm up a bit before I can really smell it. The flavor is quite juicy, like orange juice mixed with a tiny bit of grapejuice, and some sweet red berries. Are these Mosaic hops? I'm guessing at least some of them are. It's quite "juicy" and not all that bitter, although there is some bitterness in the dry finish, and it's a very good example of a NEW England style IPA, well, at least the juicy kind. So back to the aroma, I'm getting some hop resins out of it, and a bit of mango, and maybe some guava and all of those things are in the flavor as well. It doesn't particularly have a lot of depth to it but what's there is very nice. How strong is this? 7.1? Yeah, that seems about right, it's not too heavy or strong. It's medium to medium-light in body and gently crisp. I think this is what a lot of people would call "crushable". Nicely done.

This beer pours a very cloudy bright golden yellow color with a gigantic, dense, sudsy, bright white head. Retention is excellent and there are many sticky rings of lacing left on the glass.

Smell is bright and fruity, but a little more subdued than I expected. Grapefruit, tangerine and mango make up the fruity side of things, but there is also some citrus pith, dank herbal resin, and a hint if tart passion fruit.

Taste follows suit, but is more bright than the smell suggests. It starts off fruity and finishes bitter.

Feel is light, soft and velvety smoooove. There is a slight prickle on the finish from the bitterness.

Overall this is a very solid beer. Bright and fruity, but with a good deal of bitterness. The lack of aroma is all that really held this beer back.

6/18/18 canning but it seems to have just hit the shelves this past Wednesday around here... Double dry hopped, featuring Mosaic, Comet, and Summit... Name is a nod to Tupac Shakur, aka, Makaveli...

Medium-pale gold and hazed to opacity with a head as big as ya want it apparently - went kinda Duvel on me, which you don't get with a lotta NEIPAs, eh? Major grapefruit and citrus action, dry and tart, with a juicy bottom of tangerine and orange pith lending some sweetness... A mild pine breeze flows across the surface, and there's a hint of berry on the nose as well... The body is unsurprisingly plush and soft, smooth with some citric tingle and tartness...
