Look: Looks very appetizing. Pours a hazy, golden, light orange/yellow hue with a great big, rocky three finger head of white foam that lingers for a good three minutes before finally settling down to reveal an intricate web of sticky lacing on the sides of the glass. Even has some sedimentary yeast from the can floating around.
Aroma: Resinous, with big notes of dried citrus peel. Upfront pine sap, spruce clippings, peppery grapefruit rind and orange peel. Juicy pineapple/mango/papaya in the background.
Taste: Harmonious balance between the hop and malt bill. The beer is certainly more hoppy than malty, but when the malt comes through on the palate, it does so at just the right moment to provide contrast to the bitterness. Flavors follow the nose with more dried, bitter citrus peel, pine sap and a touch of floral, almost candle like, herbal waxiness - the waxy flavor almost reminds me of beeswax if you've ever tasted a piece of honeycomb. After the initial bitterness subsides (it never really goes away, simply becoming less aggressive on the finish) Creamy, bready flavors of malt emerge, mingling with the citrus peel to create this kind of orange creamsicle / sorbet flavor. A flash of blueberry, just for an instant. Ends on bittersweet, dry tangerine and more pine resin.
Feel: Full bodied, medium carbonation. Bittersweet and dry. Thirst quenching to a degree.
Overall: Really nice, you can definitely tell this was dry hopped more than once. Bitter with a softer, more approachable side on the finish. Well done Barrier and Garage.
