CANd now, my last beer from Barrier for the time being. Parting is such sweet sorrow! I beCAN this deep dive a few days ago to: a) clear out some of the backlog here at Chez Woody; b) adCANce my Untappd "Better Together" badge count since so many of their CANs are collabs; c) get a feel for their beers & brewery & d) I was intrigued by their far-out & groovy label art. The CANQuest (tm) is into the optics, man, CANd when a brewery is routinely putting out eye-catching CANs, you just know that I am there!

I bought this gem at The Beer & Beverage Shoppe on Roseville Road during my latest visit, not because I had this horizontal in mind, but because of the label art. I really dig the CANlective output of one Daniel F. Birch & I hope to maybe meet him this Summer if the COVID-19 epidemic allows me to do so. I am planning a road trip to see the CHISOX at the Yankees on 15 - 16 August (MAYBE) & I will stay at a Brooklyn hostel & hit Barrier, Interboro & Evil Twin. My Navy buddy, Jimmy B from NYC is going to join me. Join us!

From the CAN: "Brewed with our friends 3 Sons Brewing Co."; "Rainbow Cookie Pastry Stout". Hmm.

I must admit to being a tad dubious before the Crack! of the vent. Was this going to be some glittering masterpiece that was going to have me passing unicorn turds in the future? Stouts tend to bind me up when drank in quantity & the prospect of glitter down the line was less than appealing. I proceeded with a slow, steady, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass & watched in rapt fascination as I got a pseudo-cascade for my efforts. This finally settled into two-fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with minimal retention, quickly falling away to wisps. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity, light for the style. Nose smelled like a freshly-baked chocolate chip cookie! 8=O Chocolaty, bready-biscuity with a light fruitiness that I could not readily identify. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium, but light for the style. The taste was chocolaty with a berry tartness & while I would like to defer to @metter98, I disagree that it was cherry. It was odd & kind of out of place, but it was not cherry. A check of their website revealed it to be "raspberry, almond & cacao nibs". 8=O I'm not sure that I would have guessed raspberry, either. This was not unpleasant, but it definitely lacked cohesiveness with a jangly quality throughout. I never tasted almonds and the fruit imparted an unnecessary tartness that marred the overall experience. Finish was semi-dry, lightly tart, but just not up to par. YMMV.

A: The beer is essentially jet black in color - only traces of dark brown are visible near the edges of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that has good retention properties and hardly died down.
S: Light aromas of cherry cough syrup are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of cherry cough syrup along with notes of chocolate malts.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I'm not sure what type of "rainbow cookies" were used in this beer, but the smell and taste of cherry cough syrup in this beer hinders its drinkability.

Decent stout but couldn’t really pick out the “rainbow cookie,” whatever that is. Canned date 10/28/19. Pours a dark brown, almost black color with a little tan head and some small nice looking rings of lingering lacing. Smells surprisingly faintly of milk chocolate, medium roast coffee, vanilla, malt and a little nuttiness. Taste follows the nose, decent depth for a regular stout. Smooth mild mouthfeel, a little thin for my tastes but just the right amount of carbonation and flavors open up a little as the beer warms.

"Rainbow Cookie Pastry Stout" in collaboration with 3 Sons Brewing Co. out of Dania Beach, Fl.
Was expecting sweetness, but not getting that at all, although I must admit I don't really know what a Rainbow
Cookie Pastry tastes like. Nice American Imperial Stout.
