A- nice dark amber orange with good head of small tight bubbles decent retention

S- smells like a wee heavy alright you can smell the smoky flavor from the peat smoked malt and a bit of alcohol. Can smell faint whiffs of hops from west coast.

T- favors blend well. Goes down smoothly and could def sit and drink a few of these in fact I believe I might finish the growler. Smoked flavor hint of barrel aged type flavor alcohol not too strong. I personally think this is at same level as founders dirty bastard no question

M- well balanced carbonation medium bodied. Hints of nostalgia as I remember a growler I drank during Super Bowl as G-Men sent Pats home...again....GO BLUE!

I had this recently at Rattle N Hum in New York City while they were having a special on Barrier Brewing beers. This was among three beers I had.

Appearance was brown with a dark head and nice carbonation and activity.

Aroma was malty with a little bit of peat. Overall very nice.

Flavor was also quite malty but a little bit hot for the style. Pretty good but not as balanced as I'd like.

Overall a pretty good beer, worth trying if you see it.

second one i tried from barrier i really liked the bulkhead red beer lets see how this one goes

beer pours looks very much like the bulkhead but a little bit darker almost brown but hard to tell in the light definitely a smaller head than last time

aroma had some burnt smells in there almost like when you burn the toast in the toaster oven or even some type of smokey flavor i nthere not what i was expecting but worked ok

did not enjoy the flavor of this one i understand the style is supposed to be this way but the flavors did not come togethr for me i think this one was not a winner it just waxed all over my tongue very syrupy but nothing really to balance it out

good mouthfeel though this one creamy in its texture but the syrupy thing kinda ruined it

overall an average beer i look forward to trying more of their beers though esp after the bulkhead i would like to try some of their other offerings however this one did not do it for me
