Good location, and a great place to have a beer and a pizza, they have a great woodfire stove pizza place at the back of the beer garden seating area. Attended some of the events that they have posted in the past and also enjoyable. Beers are great on tap, there are also the temporarily available selections on tap and in bottle.

Very cool little microbrew in downtown Cork.... the menu is wood-fired pizzas (which were great) and they have at least 5 of their own brews plus a few guest taps available at the bar. Definitely a local vibe... informal and laid back with an outdoor beer garden. All around great fun and we had a fantastic night out here on our visit. Got a stein and tee to take with.

 

The brewery bar is quite nice. It's a small but in the center of Cork, where you can eat woodfired pizzas with a good beer of their own. The place is quite simple but really welcoming. They don't have a big selection of beers but their beers are worth a try!

 

 

 

 

 

 

The bar is nice and cozy, plenty of seating for large or small parties. The beer is the reason to visit though, nestled on the river Lee in Cork, Franciscan Well is one of the highest quality craft breweries in all of Ireland. One of their brews is on cask at all times (I had their Rebel Red) and every single style that they brew is high quality and frankly quite tasty. If you don't want their beer, you're probably stupid, but they have a decent bottle list to choose from including ciders. Most things on the menu are under 5 euro which is pretty decent. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Cork.

I first visited the Well during one of there many beer festivals(Feb 2013), had a great selection of Irish beer on cask. I became a regular soon after. A small (5 regular) selection of their own beer, supplemented by selection of specials such as their hopfen weiss(think schneider brooklyn, my personal favourite), purgatory pale ale and the very nice stout aged in Jameson whisky barrels. Has a small selection of bottled beer but this changes regularly. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Overall a nice venue with nice beer a welcoming staff. Keep an eye on their facebook page for listing of their many festivals which tend to be good fun.

Enter via an alleyway, through into the main bar area. Three redundent coppers straight in front of you behind the bar, all had crisp boxes sat on them.

The front room is square with a raised portion to your left, through there you enter a huge semi-covered courtyard/garden area. To your right as you enter the garden you can see the brewing equipment.

Upstairs they were holding a 'Polish Cultural Evening'. I didn't venture up there but I could hear the dancing from the toilets.

6 of their beers on tap, 3 handpulls (none in use). Too busy to chat with any staff, but they were pleasant enough when serving you (at the bar). The bottle list was poor, 11 boring beers with heavy prices.

I liked the copper lightshades, the wall to your right as you enter (displaying beerfest adverts) and the overal feel of the place. Certainly worth the walk out to it (via the Bierhaus of course). Friendly, noisey, upwardly mobile group of customers, no riff-raff in here. Wooden floors, with tiles around the bar, for spillage reasons I'd guess.

The music was at the right level on my visit, just above background volume. They were playing Irish/British Rock, semi-heavy metal stuff like 'Stairway to Heaven' and the likes.

My only complaint, no cask beers!

I visited the place in March, 2009. It is located some 10 mins from the city centre, so there are not too many tourists.

They had six of their own beers on the tap, as well as around ten bottled beers - quite good German and Belgium brews. Bartender explained styles of their beers and actually was quite knowledgeable.

It would be difficult to say something about the atmosphere as we were the first visitors that day and left early in the afternoon when the pub was just starting to fill, but as it was quite cozy and pleasant even when empty, so I imagine it just gets better when there are more people around.

Judging from posters on the wall, each years they organize two beer fests - in Eastern and October when there are more beers from best known Irish microbreweries available, so it might be worth checking their website before planning the visit to Cork.

I liked the pub a lot, would certainly visit again if I was in Cork.

Visited the brewpub at about 6 pm on 9th November 2006. The place is located in a quieter part of the city, but still close to the centre. The North Mall is mostly residential (apartments etc.). The entrance is up a laneway and on the right. It would be easy to pass by.
It is not very atmospheric inside either, but has plenty of copper and pipework on show. We were served by a pleasent Aussie sounding barman. He was able to tell us of the beers and styles available. I had a Shandon stout and a Purgatory ale (a seasonal). They also brew a winter warmer called Bellringer (6% ABV), but was not available for a few weeks.

There is a beergarden, which had a good number of punters availing of the chance to have a beer and a smoke at the same time.

I feel this place does not sell itself enough; there was no literature available telling customers about the brews, and it needs to be brightened up a bit. It is well worth supporting as a brewpub, and has survived here for 8 years now. Good to visit.
