Served into a half pint glass
On-draft at Messrs Maguire

A: Opaque, reddish brown. Barely 0.25 (tan) fingernail head.

S: Cinnamon, dark fruit, vanilla, oak, nutmeg, chocolate malt, and roasted black malt.

T: Much like the smell, but more spice comes thru on this than anything. I wish there was a bit more (mainly dark fruit) going on here though.

M: Medium bodied with light carbonation.

O: Needs more backbone. Decent for a winter seasonal, but needs a bit more character to be memorable.

On tap at Messrs Maguire.

Pours a clear burnt sienna with a thin loose off white head. Nose is orange, nut and spicy herbal tea. Cinnamon, mulch and apple malts, some esters, ends with nutmeg and tobacco leaf hops. Thin and prickly with a tight finish.

Can't figure this one out - nose and finish are American hops, but flavor is English (Northdown?) Either way, not malty enough for the style.

Edit: 2nd tasting turned up lots caramel and more earthy spices with few hops in sight. First one might've been a bad pint...

On cask

Pours with a deep brown body, amber and copper hints. Off white head with fair retention, some slight lacing

Smell, some malt character, figs, prunes, multitudes of dried fruit, brandy soaked christmas cake, 5 spice, cloves, christmas car air freshner.

Taste, boozy christmas cake, sweet and estery, thick whack of dried fruit and spice on the finish too

An ideal beer for christmas, not a style i'm particularly fond of but this wasnt bad at all
